emmewalle got a reaction from daveanne in Abu Dhabi Interview Scheduling?
    Hi all,

Does anyone know what the status / approx wait times are for the Abu Dhabi Consulate scheduling interviews?
Petition filed: May 2021 Petition Approved: Sept 2021 1st FE: Dec 2021 DQ'd March 2022.  Petitioner is a USC and beneficiary is a Canadian citizen living in the UAE.
Does it make sense to transfer the case to Canada?

    Thanks in advance!

emmewalle got a reaction from Redrobot in Working while waiting for SSN? (CR-1)
    Hi all,

Apologies if this has been answered already.
I am writing to understand if I can work while waiting for my SSN.

I will start a new job hopefully 1 week after I get my passport back from the embassy where I currently reside. I will travel soon-after my passport is returned to me with the temp stamp (hopefully no AP!). CR-1 case. Moving to California.
I understand that I can work without an SSN (see point 3 on this link) : it's just that it'll take additional steps for my future employer to register me without an SSN, and as long as I can provide an SSN prior to the conclusion of the current tax year (so they can withhold taxes)

    My questions are as follows:
Is the above understanding correct? Is it common for employers to do this? Is there a chance the employer refuses to do this additional and asks me to wait it out/rescind the offer? How long does it take for an SSN to arrive?
    Many thanks in advance!

Many applications are computer checked before they get to a real person.. so it is often difficult to get your resume in front of the HR person as you cannot truthfully say that you are authorized to work in the US until you have entered on your visa   That being said, you've got nothing to lose by applying. Sometimes if you can manage to make contact .. email, phone etc …. with the person doing the hiring , they might be interested enough to pull your application and take a direct look

Agree with the post above. Many job posts have questionnaires attached to their application and one of the questions is always: "Are you legally authorized to work in the US?" If you apply now, your answer will be no and most likely that means your application will not even be looked at.

My advice: do some heavy networking and get your name out there. Sure, start applying for jobs whenever you want, but use the time you have now to get acquainted with the market. Attend virtual workshops, meet potential employers, talk to people that work in your field to see where the best opportunities are. Consider enrolling in industry-relevant online courses/certificates. References in the US are important and they might come from people you attend courses with, for example.

thanks for the info.  someone suggested looking for remote opportunities in the interim that'll allow me to visit my spouse every few weeks (we are a 2h flight apart)

It sounds like you want to seek some revenge.  It is probably better to simply withdraw the I129F, and move on. Revenge may seem like some level of satisfaction on your part, but it will be empty, so better to use your energy elsewhere.

    Good Luck!

That's awesome! Great to hear that.
I'm thinking to follow what you did. I'm afraid if I get an offer I wouldn't be able to do anything about it!

Oh wow this is super helpful! THANK YOU! I would be a bit weary to edit a form for immigration purposes. what card did you use and where did you get it from? what city/country did you do this from and how was your experience? did you face any issues on the TYPE of pcc? i read some previous threads on ensuring the exact pcc is used otherwise they're quick to deny you.

    thanks again!

Next we're working on the NVC process! I'm guessing there will eventually be a slowdown because of the closure of embassies but so far NVC has been pretty speedy!

We submitted both passport photos and the birth certificate when we filed...I'm not sure if those requirements have changed since then though.

Also, as far as I know there isn't a restriction on how long you should be married. We got married less than 2 weeks before we sent ours in. However, I believe it makes a difference in the type of visa that will be issued (CR1 vs IR1).

WOW! so impressive, and inspiring!  I'm hoping we are able to get some feedback quickly once we do apply - although probably not as quickly as you did, but praying for it! We are yet to get married and then kick off the paperwork process - so step 1 for us right now is to fill in everything and get familiar with the forms and gather evidence. Once flights open up, we get married at the courthouse.  If you are interested, here is our story.

    All the best!!

I sent my I130 application to phoenix lockbox on March 9, 2020 (recieved NOA1 soon after, sent to Potomac center) and today I recieved an email from NVC and checked the status, it says approved as of April 16, 2020. Has anyone else had such a quick approval? I was expecting 7-12 months. Is this virus related...
