SMcNally got a reaction from A_R in Process after NOA2
I did stress over this question a little bit. In my fiancee's form and our co-sponsors form we ticked do not intend...because we didn't have a specific plan of money being given. I'm sure when I go to the USA my fiancee will pay for a few things for me and I'll pay for a few things for her but since there are no specifics, we checked do not intend. Of course, if you're fiance is going to pay for rent, food etc, then you may want to check the other box and write some details down on the last page.

I don't think it really matters what you check as long as there are no inconsistencies for example if your fiance earns $25000 a year and she's paying $5000 rent a month for you...there's an obvious point here where she and you will be broke at some point. To me it seems like the consular officers are looking for the story that you present with your paperwork, and if there are holes in that story, then that's a problem.

Sorry for the late reply. When the embassy mailed me by Packet 3/4, it contained a copy of the I-129f. Along with it was a 'cover letter' with my NVC number and and few other details. All it said was that I had to follow more steps to get the visa. It was basically a letter of notification saying that they had received the case and I had to start the visa application process.

Since I started this thread, I just wanted to post my experience here for other folks in case they have the same questions:
    - We got our NOA1 on 11 September 2017. Based on the timelines, I applied for my PCCs (I needed 4) in January 2018. It's good to get this out the way, in my opinion. My India PCC experience is here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/661388-pcc-experience-in-bangalore-2018-split-topic/
    - I also only have a birth certificate from the hospital and my government one doesn't have my name. So, apart from my school leaving certificate, I also got an affidavit from my parents stating that I was their son and when I was born. This was done in January too.
    - We got our NOA2 on 13th March after 183 days. We waited for 10 days or so and then began to call the NVC to check if they had received our case. The third time we called, the case had been received (26th March). A couple days later we had our case number.
-Now we went to the CEAC website and waited till it said our case was ready. It was a few days later.
-Once the case is ready, do not wait for the embassy to contact the foreign fiance. Just fill the DS-160 and pay for the visa on the US Travel Docs website. All this takes a few days. Once all this is done, you can look at interview dates. Getting the dates you want requires patience. By the first week of April, I was looking at dates. Due to our circumstances, I was looking at an early July date. After a couple weeks, I got the date I wanted.
    - In the meantime, we got our I-134 stuff ready, and our photos, tickets and statements of intent (not signed until just before the interview). You'll have to bring the original copy of the statement of intent and I-134, not photocopies.
    - I wasn't home at the time but maybe the end of April, the embassy sent me a letter (by snail mail, not email) along with a copy of our I-129f. Keep this letter and take a few copies. You'll need this at the medical and the consular interview. To ensure you have this letter, try to get your interview at least a month after the case gets transferred to the embassy (or just call the embassy and see if they can expedite the sending of the letter).
    - And that's that. Do your medical, VAC stuff and the consular interview.
    - If your case is strong, you might think about buying your plane ticket beforehand. It could be cheaper buying a ticket months in advance and changing the date (in case you have to) than buying a ticket one week before you leave.

On my fiancee's and co-sponsor's form, we checked 'does not intend' (as I am able to pay for myself...not that they asked for my financial info at the interview). I don't think it really matters. Of course, if you're fiance or co-sponsor is paying something specific for you, then check the other box.

In my experience, people from the western countries have it easy when it comes to visas, as they can travel to many countries without one (for tourism). So, when the day arrives when they have to apply for an immigrant visa, its a shock to them that they have to submit all this paperwork. All this paperwork is normal for the majority of the world. I would have to show a lot of paperwork to travel to Italy as a tourist including things like finances, employment, return ticket, itinerary (including hotel bookings). I had to show my entire life's travel history to apply for my Canadian tourist visa. While living in Singapore, it took me 3 months to get my Australian student visa while it took 24 hours for my local Singaporean friends. While living in Australia, it took me a month to get a visa to NZ to visit for a week. To get a an American tourist visa, I had to travel to a different city to get interviewed by a consular officer. If showing a lot of paperwork to enter a country means there is no freedom, then yes, there is no freedom in not just the USA but pretty much the entire world. You still have it a lot better than a lot of other people.

Of course, my above statements doesn't help you  The K1 visa is a long process- the longest visa process I've done. You'll have good days and bad days. But as the others said, you should figure out if you really want to do it. It's not like the paperwork ends once to get to the USA. Good luck!

Yes. I got mine before we got our NOA2.

If you're case is ready, then fill up the DS-160 on the ceac website. Once that is done pay at the us travel docs website and choose your interview date. Get your medical done and get all the paperwork ready. You may need to email US travel docs (I think) to get Packet 4 mailed to you faster.

I haven't had my K1 interview yet, but here's my two cents. I've been to 3 other USA visa interviews in Chennai. I've seen consular officers talk to people in perfect Tamil. Since Hindi is a very widely spoken language in India and Mumbai, my guess is that the consular officer doing the interview will be able to speak Hindi.

I think its ok for your fiance to speak a little English if needed. If the consular officer asks him how come he speaks English but wanted the interview in Hindi, that is easily explained.

As with all visa interviews, I like to go prepared with all eventualities. If I was a consular officer, I would ask your fiance, how the two of you communicate, if his English is limited. If you speak Hindi, maybe you can write a letter attesting that you speak it. There is a very tiny chance that the consular officer will even look at it (and of course, its not direct proof as the letter can easily be forged) but it is something. It also shows preparation on your part and this is important to show the consular officer...that this K1 interview basically decides your life.

FYI, I'm just guessing here and have never been to the Mumbai embassy or a K1 interview. So, not sure if I'm helping.

Thanks for the interview writeup. I don't think you need insurance but keep in mind that healthcare is very expensive in the USA. Just consulting with a doctor can cost more than $200 and a simple blood test that costs Rs 1000 in India can cost $1000.

Get it from Bangalore i.e. the place of current residence. One police clearance is required. It's a lot easier if you're fiance's address in his passport is the same as his current address. I posted my PCC experience here:

Once you finish the DS-160, you have to go to the US Travel Docs website. Create an account. Start an application. Takes 2-5 minutes to reach the payment stage. There are 3 or 4 ways to pay. I did a NEFT transfer. In about 12 hours, when I logged onto to the site again, it said there was receipt number that I could use (i.e. the payment went through and I was issued a receipt number). You enter that number and that takes you to the interview date page. They seemed to have dates from April 5th all the way to end June. Unfortunately, for me I am not in India and will be back only in July. I am looking for a July date for my interview. So, I may have to wait until there are dates for July. But a lot of folks on this thread seemed to have problems booking earlier dates. Hopefully, that is resolved now.

You are correct but there are certain countries where you can NOT get a PCC if you are not physically present in the country to get it, and Kuwait is one of those countries. This is brought up a lot in the Philippines subforum so we are well versed in this issue.
But she can not get one if she isn't in Kuwait to get it. The USEM is well versed with this and it is not a issue.
