ITMFA got a reaction from M+K IL in Received 10 year green card after oath ceremony??
    Hi All,
Hoping this will be my last immigration question EVER. I had my oath ceremony about 10 days ago, and then received my 10 year green card in the mail last week 😆. Does anyone know what I'm supposed to do with it? I surrendered all my other previous cards (OPT, work permit, conditional green card) at the field office when I went for the ceremony. Thanks, and good luck to those still waiting!

Just checked my online account, and there's a biometrics reuse letter dated today! Nice to know I won't have to go to a service center. Hopefully things won't take tooo long...

Submitted my application a few minutes ago online! ROC is still pending with no update since August 2021. Those of you who got the biometrics reuse notice - did you have to get biometrics for the ROC? They reused mine for that already, so should I expect to have to go and get them done again this time?

We included lots of financial evidence and two affidavit letters, we just gave them requirements of what must be in it but they could write whatever they wanted and it was so beautiful I teared up reading it. I think if you’re able to get them, then do it, even if it’s considered weak evidence.

ITMFA got a reaction from HF & HB in Canadian Taxes 2018 after leaving on K-1
    Hi Folks,
I moved from Canada->US on a K-1 visa in October 2018, and got married December 3rd. I was a self-employed musician in Canada up until I left, and am still waiting for my EAD so I haven't worked since arriving (US income for 2018 is $0). My husband and I have figured out how to do the Married Filed Jointly US return (including my worldwide income and a statement that I want to be taxed as a Resident Alien for all of 2018). What I'm having a tough time finding is whether the fact that I got married in 2018 will affect my Canadian return. My husband has never lived in Canada, so only I have to do the return, and obviously I will say I'm married because I am! However, I wasn't married until after I left Canada...Do I have to include my husband's US income on my Canadian return? I know there's a form to fill in reporting that I emigrated, and telling them what day I left, but that's all the information I can find. I want to do it all correctly, so any help would be appreciated
    Thanks!

Mine was "ready" in March, and I had my interview on November 15th. I was actually surprised because I thought it may take even longer.

ITMFA got a reaction from Q2018 in Where do EAD get processed?
All EAD applications that are filed with an AOS from a K-1 visa are processed at the NBC , which is in Lee Summit, Missouri. Your application number probably starts with MSC because it used to be called the Missouri Service Center. Your AOS will be sent to your local office when it's ready to be scheduled for an interview. Good luck with the wait!

ITMFA got a reaction from Q2018 in Expedited EAD for self-employed freelancers?
I called it in with a Tier 1 representative first and made sure to get a confirmation number. Then I waited to receive an email asking for evidence, but I never did, so I called up the immigration specialist at my local congressman's office (just called the number I found online). That person helped me by inquiring independently about my case, and then asked me to send along some evidence to support. I emailed him with 13 attachments (cover letter, a bunch of bills, job offer letters, anything I thought might help). I only had a few gigs lined up, but I explained the situation and the people hiring me made sure to say they looked forward to working with me again going into next season. Not sure what you do for a living, but as a performer we have a pretty small community with a lot of people from different countries, so people are friendly and helpful with this kind of stuff. Good luck!

ITMFA got a reaction from Q2018 in Expedited EAD for self-employed freelancers?
I just successfully expedited my EAD/AP based on multiple job offers as a freelance classical musician (self-employed/"independent contractor"), so you should definitely go for it! I had multiple offers of employment, including one project starting on July 6th. The letters from my potential employers stated that they are keen to work with me, and my cover letter stressed the importance of being able to accept these offers to establish a good reputation in my field. I also included separate evidence showing that I needed my AP to go back and work in Canada in August, and to attend my own wedding celebration. I sent various bills to show the financial strain that the long wait has been putting on us. I'm not sure which evidence "worked," but I wrote a detailed cover letter, and it probably also helped that I had already been waiting over 6 months. Good luck!

Successful interview at the Washington DC field office last week!

Our officer was stern but friendly. At the beginning we were asked for ID, birth certs and marriage cert.
We then spent a lot of time going through the respective I-130 and I-485 forms my wife and I - section by section. She was effectively asking us the question again and checking off our responses vs the form content. Be sure to know your I485 and I30 contents very well. These questions prompted numerous follow on questions and clarifications.
    We were asked if we wished to provide any additional information relative to the I-130 and I-145 applications and we provided the officer with a printed contents list which we ran through and she requested pretty much all of it;
    Joint 2018 Tax Return
    Join Mortgage Deed
    Joint Bank Statements
    Joint Health Insurance
    Joint Vehicle Lease
    Joint Vehicle Insurance
    Joint Home Insurance
    Joint Rental Agreement
    401k Beneficiary statements
    Paychecks
    Collection of photographs

We used the photographs to help with her request that we describe our relationship from beginning until now; she would jump in and asked pointed questions (I guess to catch us out) such as how many attended our wedding dinner, the cost of the engagement ring, full name of the person who introduced us, when our parents met for the first time - she seemed to scribble this all down in no particular order.

At the end of the process we got the spiel about the  next steps - including that it could take up to 120 days for a response. I got the feeling we weren't going to get on the spot approval so I did ask how she felt about our application. She stated she felt good about but had to do some additional checks. She said we were well prepared and liked our binder of evidence. All in all we were with her for about 40 minutes.

That evening we got an update to the I485 and I130s on the USCIS website stating 'interview was completed and case must be reviewed' which certainly caused us some concern and heartache as we went to bed. Happily by the time we woke up the next morning we had a notification that card was in production! Expecting card to be delivered today which is 7 days after the interview.

Thanks, that's super helpful, esp. info about getting the assistance of my local congress office. Will definitely look into that. I am a musician too, actually, but only as a hobby....! 😄 I'm a sound/lighting engineer for live events by trade so luckily have a few good local clients to start working with as soon as I get this EAD. I just called them and started the process stating "severe financial loss" but I'm hoping they take "I have work requests" as 'severe financial loss'..... It would be great to not have to wait another FIVE MONTHS to start supporting my family.

Thanks again - will keep in touch.
