Twomoles got a reaction from lucardo3 in All Re-scheduled Interviews/Oath Ceremonies
Got my oath ceremony scheduled today. I had my citizenship interview the last day before lockdown in PA.
Craziest is that it is already for next week. I am modifying my travel plans. I really thought it will take months.
It says face coverings and no guests :(:(:( I was hoping my daughter and husband at least would be able to come.

Twomoles got a reaction from ballsapartments in coronavirus cancelations
I have appointment next Monday for interview, and here in PA, and also MI, everything is getting canceled left and right.
I m so afraid they might cancel it.
And if I am approved, they might cancel the oath ceremony.

Twomoles reacted to N400NYC in coronavirus cancelations
Yes, I’ve been wondering all of these things myself this past week as my oath ceremony is meant to be this Friday. NYC has been getting more extreme with each day that passes in regards to cancellations and restrictions so things can get way worse even between now and Friday.
What happens will depend on many factors and may be different from one field office to the next. Last week the Seattle office closed for one week Because a worker had tested positive. Today an oath ceremony was cancelled in Boston. An upcoming ceremony in San José has already been cancelled.
What’s true is that the citizenship process will absolutely be disrupted in some form or other over the comings weeks and/or months. I think many people are acting like this isn’t going to happen - or they haven’t even thought about it.....

Twomoles reacted to N400NYC in coronavirus cancelations
Potentially across the country in the coming days and weeks:
- office closures
- postponing of interviews
- postponing if oath ceremonies
- adding to current delays and backlog

Twomoles reacted to xyz12345 in interview scheduled, GK expires couple weeks before, what to wear?
Nothing's a done deal until you had your oath and naturalization certificate back from passport processing. You just hope that after the interview, the oath notification and oath ceremony would come very quickly. For me, waiting for an oath notification and ceremony was 10x harder compared to waiting for an interview.
You can wear whatever you think is appropriate to wear. They won't hold it against you. You don't have to go business formal though. People even come to the interview in their work uniforms. I just wore office casual for my interview.

Clothing is up to you. Judgement call on your end.
If your interview is approved, you’ll be scheduled for an oath ceremony, which is basically the final stretch.
if you have a 10 year LPR card, then it doesn’t matter that it’s expiring soon, as your LPR status continues beyond the card date. You have 3 months post expiry to renew, but considering your situation, I suggest leaving it as you will be handing in your LPR card during the oath ceremony. If the oath ceremony is further down the line, you may be able to request an ADIT stamp from USCIS.

Twomoles reacted to Octavespan in Advantages / Disadvantages of becoming a US Citizen.
To me, it was a very difficult decision to make. Mainly due to having to renounce my citizenship from my country of birth as they do not allow dual citizenship. So I took a long time to think about it. After staying in the US for 7 years as an LPR, I finally made the decision to naturalize, as my life is now here and my heart was ready.

ASC usually busy in the morning. There's a big chance they can accept you as walk in in the afternoon since they are no longer busy that time.

Twomoles reacted to debbiedoo in Walk in biometrics
you can pop in and see if they will allow you to do it. some will, some wont. likely depends on how busy they are. You can bring your kids. please be courteous and keep them quiet and well behaved.

Yes, some ASCs are more amenable to walk-ins than others so you may or may not be successful; and yes about the baby.

Quicker to read the guide than watch a movie.
I did find my daughter’s obsession with playing Hamilton repeatedly a couple years back helped with revolutionary era stuff.

Actually Revolution was not that bad ignoring Al.

Twomoles reacted to yuna628 in History movies for learning for civics test
Movies really can't make up for historical accuracy of reading material or seeing living museums with your own eyes. I'd suggest a trip down to Colonial Williamsburg (stay at least a couple days), DC, or historical Philly sometime.
John Adams was a good HBO production about early presidents and the revolutionary war. They got the tone right and didn't skimp in accuracy. Just avoid such movies such as Revolution (1985), that featured Al Pacino in all his glory takin' it to the man Scarface accent style..." Hooohaaa".
I love historical/costume dramas, but I want to ragequit and toss my tv out a window by the sheer number of so many bad ones.

Sadly many do fall into The Patriot category.

The Patriot (2000): nothing more authentic then an Australian playing an American patriot during the Revolutionary War.

Twomoles reacted to Going through in applied for N-400 less than 6 months before Green Card expires
The stamp would be placed in your foreign passport, yes. You do not need to be travelling to get a stamp. The stamp also serves as physical proof of your LPR status. You would request the stamp at in Infopass appointment, scheduled over the phone.
From the myUSCIS website:
Scheduling an Appointment
Inside the United States
If you are inside the United States, you can no longer schedule an appointment online using InfoPass for domestic offices. However, you can check your case status, see our case processing times, change your address, and use other tools on our website.
If our online tools do not provide the help you need, please call the USCIS Contact Center to request an appointment.
If you are in Guam or Saipan, you may either call the Contact Center or send us a message to schedule an appointment.

Twomoles reacted to Going through in applied for N-400 less than 6 months before Green Card expires
Your LPR status does not expire just because your card expires, so don't worry about that happening.
If you wish to have physical proof of your LPR status, or plan on traveling internationally while your N400 is pending, you can make an infopass appointment to get your passport stamped for free. You must get the stamp BEFORE your card actually expires, or else you'll have to pay the fee to get the card renewed (by filing an i-90 instead).

Twomoles reacted to xyz12345 in applied for N-400 less than 6 months before Green Card expires
OP can ask for an I-551 stamp but I think USCIS may require an I-90 application since it's within 6 months of gc expiration. Hopefully your local office processes N-400s very quickly so you don't have to think about gc renewal. It's a different story if the process takes a year or more.
https://www.uscis.gov/i-90
Additionally, if you applied for naturalization at least six months before your Green Card expired, you may be able to receive an ADIT stamp instead of filing a Form I-90. If you need assistance, contact the USCIS Contact Center.
As a lawful permanent resident, you must have a valid, unexpired Permanent Resident Card or equivalent document with you at all times. Applying for naturalization does not change this requirement.
