I got my first job as a bilingual paraeducator in a middle school once l got my EAD. Then l started applying to the State and after fifteen interviews, l got my first position. Since then l have been working with the State and l have been promoted three times after that. My first language is Spanish and l have a bachelor degree in Business Administration. I think is depends on the industry but the key is to keep trying.

Go for it. My employer was very impressed with the languages I had listed on my resume. Even though I am only fluent in Dutch and English, they really liked the fact that I knew a bit about other languages (I can easily read German, French and Spanish, I just don't speak so well in these languages). They appreciated my willingness and ability to learn languages, and I think that's a valuable asset many Europeans have. I am currently brushing up on my Spanish, which will make me very useful at my job.

This might have not occurred to you, but some people want to work right away because they enjoy the socialization or contributing financially.

I think it is also a reflection of the sad state of America's finances that often times a household really needs two working members to function well.  You and I might be blessed that we live in a family that can subsist with one income, but others aren't so lucky.

That is something very personal to the couple - I (the immigrant) would have been very upset if my husband had that attitude. I have lived independently my entire life, spent years gaining advanced degrees to further my career, always made my own money and have a passion for what I do. So one of my first priorities was getting a job in my field. Otherwise I don't think I could have settled here. Took me about 3 months of full time job searching (started about 2 months before the EAD arrived).

OP,  we have all provided ideas about why she may be acting this way, but the only way to really find out what is going on in her mind, is to have an honest conversation about it. You both need to listen and be honest. It will be a good practice for married life. Good luck.

I am from a completely different part of the world, but when I was getting ready to move, I was an emotional mess. And I don't think having my husband there would have been helpful. I probably just would have been even more stressed, trying to make sure he was okay and not bored.
I needed my space to do what needed to be done, to go through all my belongings, to sell my things, to spend time with my friends and family, to ride around on my bike in my nice little town, to spend my last few days in my best friend's house drinking wine and talking all night. It was very hard for me to leave that life behind, and I was very emotional during those weeks. Maybe she just doesn't want you to see her like that.
Give her some space. If those 2 weeks are what she needs to get ready for your life together, it'll be worth it.

The EAD and AP fees are waived when you apply for AOS, which means you only have to pay the AOS fee.

If he arrives on a K1 visa, he can not work until he receives his EAD. He can apply for his EAD together with his Adjustment of Status, after you two get married. I think the EAD takes about 4 months right now, but it could be even longer. Mine took 6 months.

If you get married first and then apply for the CR1 (spousal visa), the process takes a bit longer than the K1, but he will be allowed to work as soon as he arrives. I highly recommend considering the CR1. For me, those 6 months of waiting were very difficult. But it just depends on what your priorities are.

Good luck! I was very nervous too, but it was no big deal. Friendly officer just went through my forms to check if everything was correct, and asked if we had any extra evidence to add, so we gave her our bank statements and insurance documents. Try to relax, you'll be fine!

Mine took 7 days too. The officer said she could not approve it right away, but that she didn't see a reason not to approve it. The next day my online status changed to approved. I received my card exactly 1 week after my interview.

Here you can see all the AOS stats: http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/aosstats.php
It says that the average time between biometrics and interview in NY is 303 days, so I think you still have a months to go. Of course you can always call and ask for an update, but they'll probably just tell you to wait.

I received my interview notice 4 weeks before my interview, so I think going away for 2 weeks won't be a problem, especially if you have Informed Delivery. Is there anyone who can open your mail for you, just in case you do get mail from USCIS? But still, if you get an interview notice, the interview probably won't be during your 2 weeks away.

The best practice on everything immigration is: Forms or letters requiring a signature should be presented as originals.  Some people have been allowed through with a scanned copy, but hey, this is important stuff to you so go for the best practice if possible.

Your evidence like tax return, W2, pay slips are always accepted as photocopies or scans by London.

You don't send it anywhere. Or actually, the petitioner sends it to the beneficiary. The beneficiary brings it to the interview.

How is it rude when speaking the truth, speaking the truth to someone is never rude at all. @Illiria said it plainly and said it right that if the OP was more concerned about being able to visit family anytime after entering she/he should have gone the CR-1 route instead of the K1 visa.

Immigration is not about rose gardens or feelings and quite frankly it's a hard thing to deal with. So by sugar coating something for an individual does them no good at all in the long run. So being frank with someone is the best course of action always.

Just assuming you're talking about entering on a K-1 visa.. this is yet another thing that is negative about that particular visa. If it doesn't suit you, you should choose the CR-1 visa instead.

Many people just seem to pick the K-1 visa without doing proper research, and then they get upset and call it "unfair" when they later realize that it wasn't the best choice on their part. But instead of blaming themselves for not doing enough research and planning, they wrongfully blame the immigration system/process.

We all make choices and go with what is most important to us.  If travelling is more important than moving to the USA, then K1 is not the best choice for that person [which does not mean they do not love their spouse or want to be apart].
