Personally I wouldn't trust applying for a SSN on any of the USCIS forms. Better to go to your local SSA (they may require an appointment these days) and get it done yourself. And yes, you can definitely apply for a SSN with your EAD, so no need to wait, just go get it done. You will not be working without an SSN.

For anybody else reading this thread, if you have a pending i-751 when you go for your N-400 interview - ALWAYS bring your spouse. We've been saying this for the longest time but it still seems like people miss it. The spouse isn't needed for the N-400, but definitely should be there for the i-751.

Most never get an interview letter for the i-751, only the N-400. It's a generic letter that doesn't take into consideration that the applicant might also have a pending i-751 and therefore doesn't mention anything about bringing the spouse.

To OP: Congrats! I had my N-400 interview in Los Angeles a couple of months ago and they're so easy to deal with there. Very nice officers and smooth interviews, that's probably why they didn't send you home again and had your interview rescheduled until your spouse could attend too (this happens more frequently at other offices). Now you're finally at the oath part, the easiest part.

No reason to pay for a new naturalization certificate, that's a waste of money.

Go to court and get your name change, use that name change document and your current Naturalization certificate to update your name with SSA, DMV etc, and to apply for a passport.

Your naturalization certificate doesn't need to have your new name, the court document proving your name change will be good enough.

I'm thinking the same thing. Not the easiest embassy as is, and now he has been reported as a "scammer" by the spouse herself. This could possibly very hard to overcome, if possible at all.

Likely wouldn't do any good for the processing of his case since he already had his interview, there's something else holding up his case. Maybe the FOIA would give some answers as to what the hold-up is, don't know.

Nah, won't be an issue. Many people can't even find their greencards when it's time to surrender them at the oath ceremony, nobody asks any questiosn other than "Where's your greencard?", I say "I can't find it". And that's that. Nobody is going to hunt you down over a plastic card, promise.

Scandi got a reaction from abfar in 2020/ 21- US Passport & Card Application-Tracker
This is what they wanted from me:

-Form DS-11 (fill out most of the info at home so you don't have to deal with it there. I filled out my form on the computer so it would be easily readable)
-Drivers license (or state-ID, whatever you have)
-Original Naturalization Certificate (make your own copy first, and also keep a scanned copy on your computer)
    -Form N-662 (name change document)
-Personal check with the passport fee (I paid the execution fee and photo fee with my credit card)

I didn't bring my own photos, they took photos of me there.

It happens, there are several stories here on VJ about home visits. It's a good thing, this is usually the very last step before getting a decision. 👍

The doctor who will perform the medical should be able to do titer tests to see which vaccines you have had, and give you the vaccines you need. Each country have a select few (sometimes just one) USCIS approved clinic where the medical will happen (you don't do this at any random hospital), call the one you're planning on going to and ask them about the process and missing vaccine records.
