Hi, I wanted to provide an update as yesterday my husband had a combo interview. We filed the I-751 with VSC in March 2018, case was transferred to TSC earlier this year. We filed N-400 on January 30, 2019.

The interview notice was for the N-400 only, but when we arrived together, the officer immediately asked if I was the spouse and interviewed me first, then compared answers with my husband's and did the citizenship test. He passed and we should be getting a letter about the Oath Ceremony soon.

sure, they asked if we had children (we don't) and if we have plans to have them. I said they are in the plans once we are more comfortable in our living situation (we are still renting since we graduated from College 3 years ago).

Because to us $1587 is a lot of money to pay back all at one time that is why we have to set up a payment plan, that amount for you might not be a problem but for us it is

That's the million $ question! But first, congrats on passing your N400.

It seems to be luck of the draw. Some combi people get both cases officially approved on the day of interview, others get called back for an i-751 interview (take your spouse along) and some have to wait it out for non-interview i-751 adjudication post N400.

It's encouraging that your officer said that he will adjudicate your i-751, that suggests it's not leaving his desk which should mean a quicker turnaround if your application is pretty standard. And by that I mean no minor or major red flags he'll be required to investigate. But passing your civics, and having a good N400 interview, all points to the positive.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Many times they don't. Lots of legitimate tourists are refused all the time. The law requires they err on the side of caution via a required presumption of immigrant intent.

Immigration is not fair. Everybody pays for the misdeeds of others.
Edit: To steal a phrase, you don't lock your doors because of the millions of honest people. You lock them to try to keep out the few bad actors.

Sorry she got denied---as mentioned, 2 USC children gives her stronger ties to the US than her home country...curious, what type of visas did her children originally enter the US on?

That is what I meant mostly non immigrant  visitors visas rejected but only person got visa which was immigration based  and i know it has nothing to do With it what I am saying is most people were rejected today who applied for visitor and they gave same slips to everyone  how can intent of someone be checked without checking and supporting any docs and asking nothing just name of sponsor nd where you’ll be going ,  we showed sufficient ties to the country  and also Had sufficient supporting docs to show ties here nothing checked or asked

I’m sorry, but this story doesn’t make sense. Medical treatment is horrendously expensive in the US. I presume your mother isn’t working. How is she actually affording all this?  Who is the “they” that offered insurance? What government asked for papers - US?
You do know your mother has incurred a ten year ban that will become effective when she leaves?

The answer to this question is yes, easily. They will know you are family from the DS160 forms you both filled in, and they can look up her i94 very easily.

i think it will be difficult for you to be admitted, with a mother who overstayed a year and you still a minor, I think they will suspect you plan to come permanently to illegally overstay with her. If she can fly home, she should do so, she doesn’t need you with her. Airlines have assistance for those who need it.

On May 3, I went to Seattle office to get a stamp because my 1-751 is still pending and the letter is going to expire. The IO told me that right now they are reviewing N-400s for February 2018. I told him the USCIS site says they are working on cases from July 2017 but he said this information is not always accurate because USCIS doesn't want applicants over plan or feel disappointed if the time arrives and they don't receive an appointment for interview. Just my two cents.

    Hello, everyone,
Just wanted to share my a bit bitter , but not hopeless , experience here, I was inactive and silent for about 6 months in this chat. May be it will be useful for somebody.
I was scheduled for Combo I-751 and N400 interview on December 5 of last year. A few days earlier George Bush the senior passed away, and my Combo interview got  moved for 4 weeks to January, as offices were closed that day.
Meanwhile we started to have some tense relationship with my husband , as it turned out he had an affair on a side..He refused to attend rescheduled interview in January and filed for Divorce shortly in December....Don’t really want to focus on family issues here, just wanted to describe further process...
After that what happens is - I hired lawyer and we had to quickly withdraw N-400, this had to be done before the new interview date in the early January , so the interview was not marked as unattended , and because it was mid December , I didn’t have really much time to do it, holidays were coming up and it was stressful..
After withdrawal, there was pending divorce.
In order to proceed with the case - you have to convert regular I- 751 into waiver. In order to start converting your case into waiver - divorce has to be finalized. If you don’t finalize your divorce and somehow get called to interview again - they will simply deny your case, as nobody will wait for your divorce to be finalized .
The divorce was not amicable, and each side had lawyers, each side had to provide financial affidavits and it took some time, but finally we were able to achieve marriage settlement agreement . My immigration lawyer did my divorce as well, as it was important as far as I understand, because the language in such agreement has to be done in a proper way to continue with the process.
After divorce I was able to start converting the case. It was a good- faith marriage and I still have good chances to finish the process. The only thing it will take me a while now. They will call me for an interview for a waiver , but there is no official line to track online.
My status is still pending and I continue to receive stamps in the passport for extension. When it will be 4 years and 9 months of my pending status - I am eligible to apply for citizenship - after that in this case scenario - there will be a Combo interview with me only - for waiver + citizenship.
P.S. My friend with exact same timelines as me - became a citizen in January.
Hope this story will be useful for someone. Otherwise wish everybody else good luck!

Congrats! May I ask how long you had to wait for the interview to be scheduled? Dallas Field office is notoriously known for their interview schedule backlog, so I'm just wondering!

Hi Everyone!!!! I had a combined N 400 and I 751 interview today in Dallas Office.

I posted my interview experience here for those who contemplate filing N400 while I 751 pending or if you have already filed N400 while your I 751 was pending..

My husband and I arrived early at the Dallas FO. Within 5 mins, an officer called my name. I asked her if it will be just me and she responded both of us. She mentioned that she is glad we came early because she came early hoping we would be there! In her office, I can see lots of stacks with labels N400 and I751 ( guess a lot of people have done the same thing I did ). She explained that I will have 2 interview. She will do the I751 interview and then another officer will conduct the N400. She asked for both our IDs.

Questions for my I751 : how long we have been married, how we met, where we work, when we purchased house together, did we have kids, have we lived separately longer than 2 weeks. That's it. I asked if she will need anything else. She said "I don't". Then she said I will not receive my 10 years GC if I pass the N400 test. So during the oath ceremony, I just have to hand over the 2 years GC. The interview lasted for 10 mins tops.

Then I did my N400 interview and passed. If you want to read details of my N400 interview, please visit N400 July 2017 Forum. My status in egov.uscis.do/casestatus now said I am in line for the oath ceremony. However my I 751 still said my case was received.

At this point, I know a lot of people are saying that filing N 400 will delay your I 751. I guess it just depends on when you filed the I 751 and where you file your N400. In my case, I filed I751 in Sep 2016 CSC. If I had not filed N400, most likely I would still wait for my I 751 until next year. Since my main goal is citizenship, I would say that filing N 400 has helped expediting my I 751. Again, this is my personal experience so I can't say the same for your cases.

    Good luck to you all!!!!

No, telling someone to call their embassy is not good advice when you stated "Once your spouse took the oath taking, your spouse automatically withdrawn the UK citizenship, you have to call your local embassy on how to retain your spouse UK citizen and if UK is allowed for dual citizenship"

Really?  Automatic withdraw UK citizenship?  Calling local embassy to retain UK citizenship?  Having to ask if UK allows dual citizenship . . . why because Google doesn't work?

You did ZERO research.  You gave bad advice based on your country and applied your country's laws to the UK.

    Good grief.

That is why I even mentioned to call their embassy to make sure if they are allowed to have dual citizenship and how to retain the UK citizenship, isn't that was a good advice? Read carefully before making a comment as well. LOL!

Your country.  Every country is different.  So be careful when you advise someone not from your country that they would lose their original citizenship.  Be careful when offering advice that affect people's lives.

Sharing my recent Combo Interview experience.

First of all, when I got my interview letter it was just for I751 and nothing was mentioned about  N400. I have tried to contact Tier 2 officer multiple times but never got call back. I even sent an online inquiry but did not get a reply.

I went for an interview with my wife and our baby. It was a very short interview and the officer told us that your baby trumps everything. Officer was very nice. Once he said that I751 been accepted, he asked me if I would like to do N400 interview as well. I was like yes please. lol

It started with 6 questions, Reading a line and writing a line followed by yes-no questions.
An officer explained to me everything about the next step and that's all.

Biggest thanks to VJ members which made this whole process very successful.
I wish everyone best luck in their process.

We just received a text and email from USCIS informing us that my wife's N400 interview has been scheduled. We have not received the actual letter yet but it is about 11 months from when we sent in the N400. It will be a combo interview (I-751 and N400).

Thanks for your kind words. It is important to support one another in these hard times. Congrats on your upcoming citizenship ceremony as well. I am so glad and happy for you that your immigration journey has finally come to an end. You deserve to be a US citizen after you put in so much effort and hardwork. Yes, my immigration journey was a rollercoaster ride both emotionally and practically. I am glad and grateful it is all over and my late husband must know I am a citizen, he is always in my heart too. Time for you to celebrate!

You're welcome. I am glad our fellow pending applicants can take advantage of this thread and help each other out to maximize the smoothness of the tough immigration journey in these hard times. Not surprised to see the deterioration of processing time, but i guess the best we can do is just to make sure we stay on top of the processing times and focus on proving to USCIS with tons of evidence, and patience is also the key too unfortunately. Hope you will get your 10 year green card status soon! Fingere crossed.
