Thank you. I'm so sorry about the stress!  I totally get that human error happens and I'm OK with that. I have an issue when a person gets penalized for someone else's error and they show absolutely no regard.  I hope they got things fixed for you eventually. Sheesh!  What a nightmare, this whole thing. I actually wish we had just gotten married when I was here on a visit earlier on in our dating relationship and we were tempted but didn't know what the process was. We were so worried about doing things wrong and ended up waiting and filing for the K1.

Agree with you completely. Problem is that there is no accountability with USCIS. This data entry error pushed my green card back by 2yrs and 3 months (Yes, i know it to the day!).:-) I am glad its over now and currently a US citizen,

I hear you. USCIS have a history of screwing up cases when they screwed up my employ, men based green card 10 years back due to a "data entry" error. Had to file FOIA and involve congressman's office to get it fixed. Goodluck!

SFO is slow and slower than other states where interview was scheduled 2 months from date of application. Hope you get yours soon.

If you had filed in San jose instead of SFO then you could have become a citizen by now.

No worries, I certainly get it! My wife got "lucky" with AOS, and had her green card w/in about 6 months, but every other step has had significant delays (still TBD with this one). The first delay was due to USCIS sending our I-129f approval to the National Records Center (NRC) instead of NVC, and then taking 4 months to finally get it to NVC. During that debacle, USCIS would give me a different answer every time I called their "help" line.

The ROC delays didn't really bother us that much, but if my wife doesn't get her citizenship by November, she's going to be very frustrated. We're in a very blue state, but she still is looking forward to being able to vote.

We filed on June 29th. Nothing yet. (Orlando office).

I'm so bitter about this whole process right now.  We have hit every single delay from the outset of our K1. My daughter was 12 when we started the K1 process and turns 18 next week. So I'll literally miss having her get her citizenship through me but a matter of a few weeks. What really burns me is seeing that late September filers (as well as all July and August filers on VJ) at the same local office have already had their interview and/or oath.  My husband thinks I'm kidding, but there is nothing anyone can say to convince me otherwise. There is some note on our file that was put there by some disgruntled employee during our K1 process.  We have consistently been 2-3 months behind the rest of our respective groups of filers at every single stage of this journey.

I'm sorry about the negativity. I'm just so exhausted of constantly having our lives in pending and every time we think the end is in sight, there's more time added to it. There is nobody else I can tell except you guys because nobody gets it.

We've been looking forward to this for years and when hubby asked me at breakfast if I'm excited, I told him no.  It's just another reminder that there's a little division courtesy of USCIS, in our family, yet again. More waiting for daughter's now 5 year window, I have to tell her that she does NOT get to vote like all her friends now that she's turning 18 and we have more expense, suspense, paperwork. I'm just so over this.

Thank you for listening.  I'm totally fine if you all want to tell me to stop being negative. I'm #*&%ing exhausted from this all and the only thing I care about is that I used this opportunity to finally correct a typo on my name on my birth certificate so that I don't have complications everytime I sign something and present my ID.

Save your money, you don’t really need an immigration lawyer, if you can follow the guides in this great site and steps listed in the official forms. Plenty of people here can help if you have problems with certain steps too.

I personally suggest the I-130 / CR-1 Visa Route as your beneficiary gets residency faster (although you have to be apart for a bit longer) and is able to work and do whatever immediately after entering. Plus it’s cheaper with less fees as no adjustment of status is required.

evidence of a bona fide relationship can be Timeline written and explained photographs, travel itineraries, passport stamps, social media posts from yourselves or other individuals, signed affidavits in support of your relationship, Shared accounts, insurance policies, children.

approval time depends on the processing center you’ll get. Can be from 8-16 months. Sometimes faster, sometimes slower. Generally once you clear the USCIS petition phase, and enter the NVC and consular phase, you can expect another 2-3 months until a visa is in hand, although this can also fluctuate greatly based on consulate and situation.

visits in between the two of you aren’t an issue, if eligible for ESTA/VWP, that can be utilized up to 90 days per stay, with evidence proving that the visitor will exit the country. It’s good to not overuse any visitor ESTA or visa.

Depending on how long the situation will take, you may be able to include your 2020 tax returns with your I-864 if you go the CR-1 route, as processing times can take around a year, so if you file taxes at the start of January and then apply the NVC filed it could work out with your new income. You should scope out a joint sponsor just in case though!

    Congratulations! Now you can breathe!

Our K1 journey started in July 2014 and I'm so ready to be done with feeling like we keep going into pending mode for the next set of paperwork.

Was your timeline reasonably accurate according to the prediction? We're also Orlando office (filed at end of June so a few months behind you).  I've had the hardest time finding anyone else on here who's got Orlando as the local office!

wbeem got a reaction from Morten Loegstrup in Green card up for renewal - what to do?
USCIS should send out a reminder .... but it's a bit hit  or miss so don't count on it.  Make a reminder note somewhere, set reminders in your phone, on your Google calendar or whatever you use - don't forget.

You need to submit your application to remove conditions (Form I-751) within 90 days before the expiration date on your 2 year GC.  So it would be sometime between April and the date of expiration in July. I recommend sending it in sooner rather than later within that window because we have learned when gathering evidence that sometimes it takes us a little more time to get the stuff we need to submit as supporting documents.

We are very confident about this.  Thank you for the reassurance.

Our question was do we want to start all over with a new application and have our credit report hit hard tree times AGAIN within 8 weeks (we wouldn't get the same rate so there's a practical element to this) or do we want to fight it .... Honestly, when the stress has dragged out for so long it takes a lot of energy to make sure we are making informed, logical decisions and not emotional ones.

But an UPDATE for all of you and a big thank you to all who responded. If I missed your reply it was not intentional.  I am deeply grateful for all the advice, experience and support shared on this thread.

We moseyed our butts on over to the Title Co. today and I took ALL my USCIS things in the entire folder and said, "Right. This is what the federal government has on me to validate my ID. What do you need to make this work?"

After a couple of hours (no kidding!) they accepted my GC with supporting docs and I ensured they got to see all my completed biometrics receipts.

If I'm quiet for a while it's not because I'm abandoning the thread, but because my husband and I just seriously need some destress couple time right now.

With heartfelt and sincere gratitude to all who contributed to my post. Happy Thanksgiving to each of you. ❤️

My rule of thumb when dealing with "idiots" is if I can get what they want easily and low/no cost for me I will just do it so they can shut up. It is an extra hoop to jump through but saves me stress.

Glad it worked out at the end!

Get a state ID and you don't need to waste 6 weeks. Give them what they want, you would have been done 4 weeks ago...

It is still interesting because when we were in the same situation I couldn't get on the mortgage without a GC, but had no issues with the title using my DL.
