Hello,

Since my wife is US citizen now the last step is to take her to SSA and update her status. I remember there was a talk somewhere here about doing some form to reflect her status at SS. Which form is that?

Second thing, her SS card still says Not permitted to work without DHS authorization. How do we change her physical card? Is there another form for it?

Thanks!

You have to download the form, fill it out, take it to the office. Ask them to issue a new one without the legend. Just in case, take her "old" SS card because you're not supposed to have two.

Some offices require an appt, some take walk-ins.

And bring the original certificate of naturalization! They'll make their own copy and update her record in the system.

Yes, this is an important step. You need the original. My wife and I went to the SS office right after her ceremony when she got the certificate and updated her SS status. That way the next day we went and did the passport application for her US passport. Back then they were taking 8-10 weeks to issue a passport, so you will be without your original Naturalization certificate until they mail it back to you after passport is issued. So definitely go to the SS office first thing, then passport next.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!

On the website it says to wait 10 days  -it is nice to know that it's possible to do it right after with some luck of office/clerk

I also didn't wait the 10 days - walked in maybe 2-3 days later?

Thank you for the answers and suggestions! Just checked and we have 2 SSA offices with walk-ins no appointment necessary.

We will go this Friday. We'll take the originals and the SS card with the notes on it.

As for the passport, we did applied for her passport 5 days after the naturalization. Paid for expedited service and got the passport 10 days later and naturalization certificate day later (That was middle of December). When we went to Thailand last month she used it first time :) Also we did Interview On Arrival for the Global Entry (we've applied for her in January). She got her GE card week later :)

So that's the last step in the journey which started on January 13 2018 :) I've sent the K-1 papers on that day :)

Thanks again!

Just take the naturalization certificate to social security office- they update the information and send a new card ( same number) without any restrictions.

Can fill SS-5 prior to visit to speed things up

On my application for N400 I selected "yes" when asked if I want them to contact the SSA on my behalf - does that mean the SS-5 would be done for me?
