Just applied for N400 online and didn't include request for combo interview

Hi!

I just submitted my N400 (under 3 year rule) online and, after reading through some posts on here, I'm realizing that I was perhaps supposed to include a letter requesting a combo interview?

My 2 year greencard is currently expired and I'm awaiting removal of conditions (have been since March 2022). I assumed that the N400 would just supercede the I-751...but now I'm inferring that there's further action I should have taken, re including that letter.

Has anyone done this process and not included that letter (and if so, how did it impact the process)?

Many thanks!

No, N400 doesn't supersede I-751. They are still separate cases so essentially you will have two cases to get approved for. However, N400 will never get approved until I751 has been approved. Including a letter for combo is just a courtesy letter; they don't have to act on it. If you still wish to, you can still add it now as unsolicited.

Nonetheless, you may still get a combo regardless especially if your field office is known for doing that. Even if don't get a combo, at least you gotten the N400 rolling and dodged the April fee increases. Good luck.

Nope.  You may or may not get a combo interview.  Some of us have submitted request letters, but there is no requirement to do so.  In my case, we did undergo a combo interview after requesting one during the N-400 application process.   You could upload a letter if you wish.

A recommended step in this process is to wait until you receive the interview notice for the N-400, then send a letter to the same USCIS regional office on the naturalization interview notice, requesting a combo interview with the pending I-751, if it is still pending at that time.  Include in the letter a photocopy of the N-400 interview notice, as well as the I-751 receipt with the 48-month extension. This worked for my husband's case and he had a combo interview, first the I-751 where I was called in, then the N-400 on his own, both were approved.  Some USCIS offices routinely do a combo interview without the letter requesting one, but we have seen some cases here on VJ where a decision on the N-400 was delayed after a successful naturalization interview because of a pending I-751.  Good luck!

Just had a look on my USCIS account and can't see any way to upload an additional document, now the N400 has already been submitted 🤔. Hoping it's because I'm on my phone and that I'll be able to do it on a laptop!

Will do this, thanks!

Request combo when you go for your N400 interview. That's what I did with my wife. We didn't request it beforehand.

The worst thing is they will say no.

Might be too late at that point. Giving some heads up by submitting request earlier gives immigration officer a chance to prepare / review I-751 before N-400.

I apply for citizenship on april 2022 with I-751 pending, I didn’t include a letter requesting a combo interview.

I had my citizenship interview on december 2022, I passed my interview , they didn’t mentioned my I-751, on the afternoon my I- 751 was approved and next day my Citizenship status changed to approved.

my husband was with me but they didnt let him in, all my questions was about citizenship.

I uploaded my letter after I received the interview notice. In my case it was a combo interview. The IO specifically asked me if I was informed it would be a combo interview, I was not. He also specifically noted my request letter so there is definitely no harm in sending it. Also I have seen a few posts on here where they got a call or a letter between a week and a few days before the interview informing them to bring their spouse. At the end of the day it all depends with USCIS but again no harm in uploading if it would make you feel better!

I only used my laptop for uploading things, but I uploaded new evidence almost every month my N-400 was pending. So it's very possible to do so after submission.
