IR1 Interview Coming Up - AGE GAP + POLICE CHARACTER CERTIFICATE

Hi friends!

My husband (Pakistani, 23) and I (American Citizen, 26) are expecting an interview soon. However, I was worried about some things:

  • Firstly, the age gap between us, we have been married for 2 years now, and got married fairly young due to religious reasons, we are not allowed to date (both Muslims), we have a lot of proof of our relationship, joint bank account, credit cards, photos with family and friends, passport with stamps of me entering/exiting Pakistan for years before and after our marriage etc. Would this age gap be an issue?
  • Secondly, my husband has had a police report filed against him from his own family (they were arguing over property distribution left in the will of grandparents and stated that he unlawfully took a share) however, after investigation it says that he was declared innocent and not involved in the case on his character certificate from Pakistan. Would this be an issue? I am worried they may want to dwell deeper because the case details are not explicitly stated, just simply that charges were not made, that the charges were considered "miscellaneous" and no convictions occurred.
  • Thirdly, is it a good idea for me to attend the interview? Would this strengthen his interview? I have flown out to join him, but am unsure if this would ruin any chances or perhaps make the case a lot better?

Our nerves our off the roof! Any suggestions are welcome!

I doubt it will be an issue

May delay matters whilst they check everything

I would not

The embassy will do their own background checks, and they will find the records.  NVC doesn't accept Pakistani police records.

3 years age difference is minimal.

The bigger issue he has is being a  young Pakistani male with a criminal history.  You could end up in AP for quite awhile (there is no way to know, but good to prepare for the possibility).

My spouse is 40 years younger than me and we never had any issues getting the K1 visa approved and then two years later the CR1 visa approved, the age is the least of your worries.

Age gaps are viewed quite differently by different consulates due to culture, issues with fraud, etc.

With that being said, a three year difference is so minimal that I doubt it will have much of an impact, if at all, for OP.

Age difference is not an issue here. I have a friend who was about the same age as you and your husband and this was never brought up. As long as you meet the minimum age requirements in the country where the marriage took place then there is no issue. 3 years age difference isn't even large whatsoever.

Islamabad consulate, like many others, does not allow the petitioner to go in for the interview together with the beneficiary. The best you can do if you’re visiting is to give your passport to your husband to take with him to the interview and show the CO and say that my wife is currently visiting me.

This isn't true. There is no prohibition of a U.S citizen accompanying their beneficiary at the interview in Islamabad, not from the embassy itself. The local fascists manning the main door might create a stink though but as a U.S citizen you can go and ask for help...or in this case accompany the beneficiary. Having said that, accompanying the beneficiary to the interview is not a wise choice because you might open yourself up to questioning which would only have been directed at the beneficiary were you not there. The risk of giving inconsistent statements is high when two people are questioned at the same time. So its a huge risk and no reward here.

I’m going off of recent reports in the ISL interview thread where a few people confirmed the petitioner was not let in. So this seems to be real life recent experience.

I agree on the downsides regarding questioning/potential Stokes interview
