There must be a federal judge at the ceremony who can approve/sign off on the name change. It cannot be done by a USCIS officer, so yes it will likely delay things

As of half an hour ago I'm officially an American citizen!

 

It was an interesting experience - they handed us info packets and then had us get in one of several lines that wrapped around the parking lot. I think they were doing oaths in batches. At some point, an official came by to fetch my appointment letter and green card (+ expired docs). After that we just waited for the line to move. Once it was my turn, I got out of my car and swore the oath with a small batch of people (maybe a couple dozen?). Then we got back in my car and after a few minutes I was handed my certificate of naturalization. Thought there would be a little more fan fare, but I'm glad the process is over!

Most people get the letter around 5 weeks before interview date.

Just had my interview! Approved on the spot and in line for oath ceremony scheduling, though my online status says my application is in quality review.

 

We went through the civic questions first, then the writing and speaking test. After I passed the IO went through my application, confirming most of my basic information, then ran through the roster of "Yes/No" questions.

 

Civic questions that I was asked:

- Why does the flag have 13 stripes?

- Why does the flag have 50 stars?

- Who is the Chief Justice?

- If the President and Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

- What are two ways that American citizens can participate in their democracy?

- What ocean is on the East Coast?

 

They did not ask me for any additional evidence, though I brought a boatload. Maybe the appearance of my big file box was enough, haha. I opted out of my name change, so they had me sign off on the change on my application, then once more on a form confirming that I was willing to take the oath of allegiance. After that, she printed a piece of paper that showed instructions while waiting for my oath ceremony to be scheduled.

I can see the interview notice from USCIS and a second notice from the local office named for me and my partner on my USPS informed delivery but it hasn't been delivered yet. Marked for Saturday, I really hope it comes through today!!

 

By the looks of it, since it's from the local office and names my partner I am assuming is an in invitation for a combo interview but I can't be sure until it's delivered. Don't let me down again USPS!!

Oath ceremony notice popped up on my account this morning - April 3! In two weeks I'll become a citizen. Summarizing my timeline below at the San Diego FO:

 

01 Jan 2024 - Filed N-400

01 Jan 2024 - Biometrics were reused (online notice)

05 Feb 2024 - Interview was scheduled (online notice)

15 Mar 2024 - Interview; recommended for approval and sent to quality review, and in line for oath ceremony

19 Mar 2024 - Oath ceremony was scheduled (online notice)

03 Apr 2024 - Oath ceremony

Ditto. Got a couple of letters from USCIS and one was for N-400 and the other was for I-751 that said US citizen spouse has to be there because there's a chance they'll interview us both after the scheduled N-400 interview.

If it is a combo interview, the I-751 part will be conducted first.

Thanks. The wording on the letter is kinda confusing but it'd make sense if the interview for I-751 is before the one for N-400
