How old is this child?

before 1993 there was poor record keeping but since then not so  as all births are recorded by NPC

 

. For people born before 1993; you'll only be able to get an Attestation of Birth + Affidavit (2 complimentary documents), as a Birth Certificate cannot be issued for people born before the formation of the NPC.  

 

Nigerian birth certificates (and copies) have in upper right corner , the month, year and entry # where the record is 

(this doesn't change)

Center is parents names and DOB

 

at bottom left is the area born

and actual date of record (not changed if a copy)

 

the only date that would be different would be the stamp date when u got a new copy

 

Unfortunately the following is a statement of what u face in Nigeria

All indications are that the use of false travel documents, birth certificates and other documents is increasing

Unfortunately, OP here has a completely wrong year on a BC. That's what's mind-boggling. 

The birth certificate has the right date of birth. The birth certificate was issued at a much later date. It doesn't have a later birth date. OP never said that the DOB was wrong or unknown.

You may wanna read again and understand how different cultures use some words. OP said recorded. You changed it to issued. 

 

Whether a BC was issued years later, which I doubt, the DOB, as was recorded at birth, remains same. I lost my BC. Got a new one in 2013. The new one has same details as the old. The only difference, it has a stamp saying it was issued in 2013. Does that mean I was born in 2013? I used it to apply for all my US processes, all the way to N400. Noone ever asked me anything or to explain the stamp and signature. 

 

DoS won't have an issue with documents issued years later. Things get lost, people replace and there is a new issue date on some. However, the details in that reissued document remains as was in the initial document.

@ Timona , I think you did not understand my post. My son has a birth certificate. His first birth certificate got misplaced, we didn't realize that it was missing until I started filling for him to come to America. So we had to go to the local government where he got his initial birth certificate. So when they gave us the birth certificate. So on the birth certificate, it states the correct date of birth of my son, So there is nothing wrong with the date of birth. But the birth certificate was registered on the date they issued us another birth certificate. The registration date on the birth certificate was years ahead of his birth date. I am only asking for an opinion, not a teacher, you do not need to be rude, If you don't understand the post. Be polite in the way you respond to posts.

Yes, that was what happened, I was surprised when they asked for a public record of his birth. The date of birth still says the same on the document. the stamp date was just different. I am thinking of getting an affidavit to defend the reasons. A certified affidavit from the court.

@JeanneAdil, our beloved researcher explained it here and you also seem to agree with it. 

 

Wasn't this just a matter of reprint and stamp? In Nigeria, do they input data afresh when you seek replacement? Because that's the one way I see such a mistake happening. 

 

A stamp doesn't affect anything.

Are they maybe asking you to put a Hague Apostille on this birth certificate?

 

I think you need to write down the exact words you got from the US embassy. The new copy of the birth certificate is not a problem. Everyone submits new copy with a new stamp dated closer to their application date.

After applying for son US Passport, I got a letter, stated’’ The birth documents you submitted was recorded more than one year after the birth occurred. 

 

You may submit a DNA or Get early public records issues at or near the time of your child birth which shows your name and mothers name, such as hospital, medical, religion. 
 

My question have anyone had same issue before, My son was born in Nigeria, West Africa. It’s hard to go back to the hospital that he was born to get any record, if the hospital exist anymore. It’s been 12 years.

Any specific reason you don't just want to go with the DNA test option? Seems straightforward, if not exactly cheap...
