Hello all, I wanted to inquire about the possibility of contacting the local senator after getting documentarily qualified. My spouse and I were qualified a couple of months ago, and we heard from other sources that contacting your senator may help in speeding up or getting more information about the status of the case.

I was thinking of doing this as long as it didn't have any potential of hurting the application. I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with this.

Thank you!

It does not do any harm, not sure it does much good.

If you have been DQ'd by NVC, that is the status of your case.  You are in line at NVC until you reach the front of the queue there for your consulate.  Contacting a Senator will not help.  Here is the process:

1. Case is DQ'd by NVC.

2. Case then enters NVC queue for your consulate and waits at NVC.

3. Consulate informs NVC of available interview date for upcoming month.

4. NVC schedules interview when case reaches the front of the queue for that consulate.

5. NVC notifies person of interview date via email.

6. NVC then sends case to consulate.

After the interview is scheduled, it can take several days to several weeks for the consulate to receive the case.

But why?  Why waste their time if your case is progressing as normal?   SMH.

If it’s any comfort , dq’d since August 17th, meaning we are waiting for 53 days, and our embassy is not one of the busy ones, nor does it deal with transferred cases. Also diversity visa cases that have been backlogged are raised in prirority and their new cycle starts in Oct. every year, also the students visa should not be prevalent this time of the year. Just patience, and we’ll get there.

As a general rule, Consulates with Immigrant visa Units also have non-immigrant visa units, with each unit having their own boss.  Should be no connection between the two units with respect to backlog, but it is always possible to rotate people between units.
