if they are willing to pay for travel for important events, even better.

Personally I like a hybrid system.  It is a nice change of pace to go into the office 2-3 times a week, and it is also nice to be flexible in case something comes up.  What is interesting is being one of the older folks on the office, I totally like the whole open office environment, I work with quite a few millennials that wish we had cubes.

Apparently they want a more personal space.  I tell them that’s easy, just get in at 5:30 and you can always get the same space.

It's 4:15 am and I'm just reading this.  I'm and early morning person, not a night owl.  Already got nearly 6 full hours of sleep and I'm ready to go.  Best part of the day right now before the sun, and everyone else, comes up.

 

I'm still trying to figure out how I can work remotely.

The husband still works remotely, only coming in a couple times a month. Honestly? He prefers it that way. The entire team does. There are several new fathers on the team that juggle watching kids while working, and some moms with special needs kids that require care. Ultimately working remotely saves both him and his employer money. When called into the office, most of it is completely pointless, and no actual work gets done. He gets especially annoyed when he's trying to work in the open office and the rest of the co-workers are loudly goofing off, so he can't concentrate. Or they are constantly interrupting him working. Being at home allows him a quiet space to work. If his employer went back to office work, I'm very sure most of the guys would quit or would have severe problems finding adequate childcare.

For some reason NPR seems to be focussing on childcare recently.

 

They like complaining about the cost, well if you want quality child care, qualified staff etc it is not going to be cheap.

 

Looking at the bigger picture if you do not need staff to be on site why would you pay them local US wages to work remotely when you can pay people much less to work even more remotely?

 

I would have thought the logic would be that there will be a world wide wage for a given remote job.
