Citizenship for elderly mother

While I appreciate all the replies, many have failed to read clearly my original post where I state that my mother is in mental decline. She is unable to retain information and exhibits other metal deficiencies.

There is no "more to this story."

However, I have gathered from all of these replies that there MUST be a letter from a medical professional, and there's no way around that.

Thanks all!

Print out the N-648 and take it to her doctor…they will do it for you.
You can help by reading the instructions and helping them make sure all fields are complete.

I believe the reason she never attempted is due to her lack of education and therefore, lack of confidence to take and pass the test.

She is in mental decline now.

Isn't this your original post? I did read it clearly. The internet never lies.

Mental decline is now, which I sympathize with. You yourself clearly stated why she hadn't done it all these years, which I questioned.

Shifting goal post now?

I'm out.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

My Grandmother naturalized forty years after she arrived here. My Grandfather naturalized as soon as he was eligible. I just found this out recently, and will never know the reasons she waited so long. I do know that she was proud of her citizenship and voted with passion. Best of luck to your mother! I'm sure it will be a proud day for her!

N400 is offered in multiple languages. Visit USCIS page. I'm 100% sure I sent one in Amharic to my friend's wife who never went to school and has since naturalized. That was 2 years ago.

She's since learnt English via YouTube. She can converse now, but not deep. But atleast we can hold a conversation. She came to US in 2018

My mom can't memorize things in her native language.  She never been to school in her life, so she doesn’t know how to write or read!  While she is smart in her cooking and baking and familiar with the area where she grows up, she doesn’t know her date of birth or my date of birth, her address, bank account, and so on. She was going to ESL school here for a year all what she learned is couple letters! She just got hopeless and quit! Trust me it is very difficult.

My Grandmother never learnt to read or write in her native language, you were not allowed to use it at school.

Still not sure why this is an issue now.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Some people might just want to spend their golden years as a citizen, and be a citizen when they cross over. Could be many reasons, but that reason is hers!

4 years, 11 months, 2 weeks and 3 days

Citizenship Complete!

USCIS is like a box of chocolates, you never know what kind of answer you are going to get!!!!

The reason may or may not be hers

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
