My case has been on "Actively Being Reviewed" for 5 months now. From what I've read, this isn't that unusual but it's starting to get very frustrating seeing the same thing every time I check in. Especially when I see that people who applied months after me have already been approved. (Happy for them though!)

I did just read that someone filed a Non-Delivery of Notice (https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/displayNDNForm.do) and actually got approved a few days after. That post is below. I know that it's almost certainly a coincidence and it's not related to the reviewing status but I guess it's worth a shot. Is there any reason I shouldn't try this?

Also if anyone has any insight into the arcane "Actively Being Reviewed" status, I'd be happy to hear it.

Being actively reviewed means nothing more than it's in the queue.  An actual human spends an average of less than 30 minutes reviewing and deciding about any individual case.  Pay more attention to the probable timelines than any status on the USCIS website unless the status says, request for evidence, approved, or denied.

I'm a July 2021 filer (petitioner) and am still waiting for NOA2. My case status has been on "actively being reviewed" since November 29th, 2021. I guess USCIS has a different definition of "active." At this point I'm getting increasingly worried that my file has been forgotten or lost or something. Is there any way to inquire about my case more accurately? I have to wait until October 14th to be outside normal processing time. Thanks.

Probably some more experienced people in the forum can answer, but the first "active review" doesn't mean too much these days. Used to be that it was only a couple weeks to months after, but now for online filers (like myself) the first active review happened immediately after filing - hence losing all meaning...

Also, have you checked with USCIS to see if you case hasn't been transferred to a different SC? Might be that you aren't at Texas anymore (California is taking longer, it seems like.)

No, I haven't. What's the best way to actually reach USCIS regarding that? It seems like it's impossible to get any kind of response from them.

There's nothing to worry about. This is normal. It will stay like that for a 1.5 years, or 1 year, if you're lucky

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

Oops, thought I had replied. But I guess my phone didn't post.

You can call or chat online. Seems like online chat is the easiest way, though sometimes the system is offline, or all agents are busy, or the "magic word" to get through changes. But, check out the Service Center forum, people regularly post there with their recent Ask Emma experiences and advise.

I think Active Review these days means "Case was assigned to a USCIS office".

During business answers type in "live agent" to Ask Emma. Then you can ask them which service center you are at...

Unfortunately, approval times appear to be very random. Hopefully you will get your NOA2 soon...

I do understand how you feel. I feel same way too because I am August 2021 filer and I have been on actively reviewed since December 2021 & I can’t file a complaint till November 16 to be outside normal processing time. That will be 15 months. It’s tiring! We also tried to expedite our case but no response since 3 weeks ago. I pray something positive comes soon.

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).
