Hi all,

We, my wife's visa was finally approved and she will be traveling here to Iowa soon. I have a question regarding flight options.

Since this will be her 1st entry to the US, is she required to enter at Los Angeles? Or, can she take a lower cost flight connecting in Tokyo and landing in Dallas or Chicago or NY?

Any POE.  Just make sure she allows plenty of time between her POE arrival and a connecting flight.  I recommend about 3 or 4 hours if possible.

any flight that u find that is cheapest

round trip or one way

watch the layovers  to make sure they don't require a transit visa

BTW Canada does not require one if the person has a valid US visa

What to watch for is online tickets that come as 2 separate tickets

when they are and  u have to pick up a new ticket at a layover country ,  u have to pick up luggage and go thru customs

i like to make sure my luggage is checked into the final designation (ticket and boarding passes all picked up when i check in )

we bought one way from Morocco to Nashville

took us from Casablance to Doha,  Qatar to Chicago for US POE to Nashville

I agree with the others.  Personally, I would avoid LA, Chicago or NY.  There are regular flights from Korea and Japan into Detroit and CBP has a nice set-up there for arrivals as well as getting on a connecting flight.

@Jeanne Adil So if I'm in possession of a Cr1,  can fly through Canada? Is it possible to go through preclearance there?

Oh thats good. I was looking for a way to do preclearance when my time comes.

So basically, I get to Canada, collect my luggage go through preclearance and then check in for my flight to the States? How long do you think I should allocate between flights? Considering I may end up going through processing in Canada.?

I allow 3 hours as if flight is on time ,  it is at least 20 minutes to taxi to airport

then wait for stairs to let u exit the plane

then for luggage to arrive on turnstyle

then customs and immigration

weather is always a factor so give time for delayed flights ,  fog,  thunderstorms,  circling a hurricane ,  even the volcanoes like the one in Iceland last year interrupted flight paths

give yourself time to do this without rushing

Thank you so much for this. And pre-clearance is always happening. Its not like I have to arrive at a certain time correct?
