The Dating.com survey, conducted from 2,000 participants, found that 20% of participants claimed that bod shape did not matter at all when it came to finding a partner. It also found that only 15% liked a “Barbie or Ken-like body type”.

“Very fit and in shape bodies are seen as ideal when it comes to attracting a partner, however the users of Dating.com just proved that isn’t always the case when it comes to real-life romances,” said Maria Sullivan, vice-president of the dating website. “Movies and TV shows tend to promote ‘Barbie and Ken’ body types, giving people the idea they need to look similar in order to find their match. We are happy to confirm that is not how the real world world really operates.”

When I was younger, I had times when I would do a lot of  "bulking" as they call it and ended up getting the dad bod look (or worse). Other times I would diet and work out like crazy trying to get my body fat levels really low. What I found in all that is if people like you, they like you and if they don't they don't. I know it's a cliche, but it's true most of the time. Usually it's about who you are. I was a lot more of a jerk back then, and in the end, having a six pack or big biceps didn't change that. My relationships changed for the better when I started to chill out a little.

i still am a jerk. i have learned as i get older that tact is overrated, and i dont have time anymore to play nice all the time.

because this is the truth. 100%. its a waste of time trying to change that perception because i know if i dont like someone, i never will, and i expect it to be true of people's reactions to me.

Perception won't change based on appearance, I agree. My perception will change if someone's behavior changes. We sometimes get new hires that come off as abrasive or defensive and I have a difficult time dealing with them. Then down the road they settle in and their attitude improves and I get along fine with them after that. Probably more likely with people you don't know that well, since it is sometimes just a matter of getting to know them better.

I think once you've known someone a while, it's more difficult to change perception. I have seen people who have made changes, either been jerks and then realize it and start to behave better, or sometimes the opposite. It's harder to change opinion of someone if there behavior was a certain way for a long period of time, but it is possible.
