Thrilling Monday-morning semi-report, half-see man:

Mini-B. accepted waffles for breakfast, ingest nonpickily wee man.

Standardized skool tests today, everyone aware man.

Mini-B. couldn't find laptop-charger, highly aysheep wee man.

Was about to resort to using Oculus charger, plug fit into laptop man.

We told Ex-Mrs.-T-B. that Mini-B. was aysheep, report we aysheep wee man to ex-she man man.

Ex-Mrs.-T-B. met us in the skool line, never seen ex-her move that promptly man.

Mini-B. non-aysheep, mollified wee man.

Ex-Mrs.-T-B.'s A/C should be fixed in about an hour, hot stuff now (albeit a non-rubia) ex-she man.

My husband qualifies as being in the crazy zone today. He is hot (to me) but today... ugh. We were out running a ton of errands and the second to last was for us to swing by his old co-worker's place to pick up a polarfleece he'd left in the office and that she'd found. We're almost parked when out of nowhere this skateboarder flies AT my car. I was so shocked, but it became clear quickly he'd done it on purpose as the guy tried to do the same thing to another car when it didn't work on me. Alex was FURIOUS. Like steam coming out of his ears furious. He unbuckled his seatbelt and threw open the car door and I had to physically restrain him from going out and pounding the guy. Al was ranting about drug addicts trying to hurt his wife or traumatize her, and how he couldn't promise he wouldn't have kicked the you know what out of the guy if I'd actually been hurt or if he'd hit the car.

Honestly? Not impressed. I don't need all this super macho stuff, and I do not need my husband going to prison for the sake of a ding in my car. I appreciate the sentiment of him wanting to keep me safe but not the caveman ug-ug big man protect little woman bit. I love him but really unnecessary.

Rant over!

Ugh, that is kind of scary in a sense that the guy will go to that length to get either an insurance scam going or worse. It's good you kept your head and kept your husband from going caveman he would have played into the guys scheme.

We have a tough one, si and sigh man.

Mama T-B. can no longer handle Uncle T-B., full-time job senior he man.

Uncle T-B. can and does cook for himself, independent living man.

He can't drive, bad idea even if he could man.

He theoretically can take care of himself, but doesn't man.

-- he won't bathe regularly or groom himself, don't know why man

-- he won't wear his hearing aids, chickenpoop excuses for it man

-- because he can't hear, he stares blankly when people talk to him, frustrating man

-- he won't do anything on his own, credit-card questions or doctor/dentist appointments man.

He therefore relies on Mama T-B. for everything, like a small child man.

The senior casa has transportation available, simply reserve it man.

He won't do that, no expressed reason man.

Even if he got to his own medical appointments, he wouldn't hear what he was told man.

Even if he could hear it, he might not understand the instructions man.

Even if he understood, he wouldn't follow the instructions man.

On Monday, he went to the front office to ask them something, ask he man.

They noticed awful skin on his leg, notice they man.

They phoned Mama T-B., contact man.

She had to call some traveling medics, travel they man.

They diagnosed a skin infection from not warshing, spotty bathing habits senior he man.

They prescribed a topical antibiotic with dressing instructions, Rx they man.

It's unclear whether Uncle T-B. heard, understood, or will follow the instructions, sigh man.

Short-term, Uncle T-B. needs a Home Health Aide, ensure showering/grooming man.

Long-term (but not right away), he needs Assisted Living, this is in the cards man.

However, the A.L. place would still call Mama T-B. for everything, :girlwerewolf2xn: man.

However, Medicare won't pay for Home Health without medical authorization, :girlwerewolf2xn: man.

In addition, he won't raise a finger to manage his finances, accounts CDs all else man.

He was young during the Great Depression and refuses to spend any money, sigh man.

If anyone tries to convince him to, he gets paranoid and thinks that they're after his money, sigh man.

Mama T-B. broke down in tears yet again on the phone with us, end-of-rope senior she man.

She won't fully rely on us for these things, stubborn senior she man.

All that we can think of is to have a kindly man-to-man talk with Uncle T-B., sigh man.

Without hurting his feelings, we must tell him to shape up independently or ship out to A.L., that's it man.

Of course, one of Many (2+1) things would happen, see man:

-- he would agree but not comply, old habits die hard man

-- he would not call Mama T-B. as much and would fall into even greater disrepair, most likely man

-- he would be hurt and not talk to either of us, also highly likely man

We see no clear pathway, no man.

However, Mama T-B. is far past the end of her rope and can take no more, clear man.

Advice is solicited, gracias man.

Oh man Tbone that is hard, really really hard. You do have the right idea and you're right about,  if he will agree but not follow through.

All I can think of is finding student nurses looking for side gig's to help with care. But I don't know how feasible that would be.

Will his doctor not give medicare authorization? He probably needs to have an assessment done to see what his abilities are for daily care.

I cannot blame your mom being past the end of her rope. It's so tough taking care of someone who doesn't think and want help.

Doctors can give authorization for Medicare reimbursement, but it has to be for a specific medical need, we think man.  For example, Uncle T-B. is to treat his infected leg for 2 weeks (yeah, as though he'll remember to do so man), and it takes that long to gin up the Home Health authorization, sigh man.

The stoodent nurses are a very interesting idea, but we wonder about liability for them/the facility, etc., sigh man.  And Uncle T-B. would never agree to pay for them, cheap senior he man.

TB, this was nearly my same situation with my dad, aside from the hearing.   He just failed to take care of himself, probably for a variety of reasons, including some depression.

Assisted living was adequate for awhile, but he often did not cooperate with the care, such as letting them in to change his sheets etc.  An adult family home was a better fit.   He was on hospice, and therefore home health aids were covered.

But you’re right, medicare does not pay for any type of personal aide, or residential care.   Aging in the US is very expensive.

It’s not an easy road to navigate, that’s for sure!   I was dad’s DPOA for years, and it was hard to try to maintain his autonomy as an adult and also mitigate the risks from his questionable day to day choices.

Does the place where he lives have a social worker?

Rant for today...

My father is telling me we should stop our move to the US and move back home instead.

I miss my family and my home, too. Haven't been back since 2020 and not sure when I'll go home again.

Problem is the immigration process is as long and tedious and a lot less "friendly" than the US.

So, leaving this peninsula won't be a quick or easy process if we change course.

Been there, done that. With both sets of grandparents, in Argentina. In- home care there is much more affordable, I would say. So for my grandpa we hired three nurses, one for the morning shift, one for the afternoon, and another one for the night shift. The problem was that they did not get along well with each other, and so they would not relay information to each other.

Side anecdote: my grandpa was a doctor. He was fine.... Just old! But one day during the day shift one of the nurses fainted and hit her head in the bathroom... Well, guess who provided first aid! Good ol'e grandpa!!! Sometimes he was the one taking care of them

93 year old parents in Australia .. totally understand. Many things the same as your situation ..loss of  hearing , denial of reality, refusing assistance, wont ask … shape up or ship out has so many risks. .. no clear pathway here either  .. 😢

🥺😓. I hear you .. no one “ wins” no matter what you choose .. especially you and your spouse

Living in a third country has been the perfect compromise... but it is only perfect until it isn't.
