Hi All,

Here is my interview experience at the Dallas Office.

I applied for citizenship in Mar 2021 based on the 5-yr rule. My appointment time was 8:00 am but I arrived there at approx. 7:40 am. First, I went through security put all the stuff (phone, belt and shoes go through the scanner), then after security clearance moved towards the receptionist desk she told me to go to the check-in window that labeled with the numbers (1,2,3) I went up to the check-in area Number 3, presented my interview notices and they took my picture and fingerprints. I was then told to go to the Second floor.
At second Floor, I entered a large waiting area where there were approx. 40 - 50 other people waiting for an interview. Every once in a while an immigration officers would come out with different doors and call someone's name. I waited about 25 mins until my name was called. USCIS Officer led me into a room and a screen separated the officer from me. The officer first asked  to see my passport, green card and driver's id. The officer made me stand up, raise my hand and essentially made me  say that whatever I am about  to say in the interview is all going to be true. I acknowledged him. He told me that he was going to start with the test portion of the interview. He asked me the following questions:

1.What is freedom of religion?
I answered "You can practice any religion, or not practice a religion."

2. If both the President and the Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President?
I answered "the Speaker of the House".

3. How old do citizens have to be to vote for President?*
I answered "Citizens eighteen 18 and older".

4. What movement tried to end racial discrimination?
I answered "civil rights movement".

5. What major event happened on September 11, 2001, in the United States?
I answered Terrorists attacked the United States.

6. Who was the first President?*
I answered George Washington.

Once this portion was done, he asked me to read something off the tablet that was on the bottom right corner close to my sit on his desk and asked me to write a small sentence on the same tablet using Pixel Pen . He then told me that he would go through my application. All he did was basically repeat what I filled out in my application and all I had to do was to say yes or no to them. At the end he gave me a paper which said  to the effect "Congratulations, Your application is recommended for approval".  "If final approval is granted you will be notified when and where to report for the Oath Ceremony". He did not ask me for any of the documents I had prepared, like tax returns, bank statements, Car insurance, travel history, 2x2 Photo etc. Before leaving the seat I asked him do you know when I will be able to take the oath or would it be possible to get the oath today? He told me that unfortunately we don't offer same day oath ceremony and also because of Christmas and New year you should be getting your oath ceremony appointment at the end of the next month then i told him that I need to travel outside USA next month because my wife is pregnant and our baby due date is 2nd week of January. He politely reply me that you can reschedule your oath if its coming at the time when you outside USA. When I got home, there was an update on my case  that showed that "Oath Ceremony will be Scheduled"

Now I am almost close to the end of this N400 Journey.

Good luck everyone !

I just saw the post above and remembered that I hadn't posted about my interview. I was also at the Dallas office on Wednesday and it went very smoothly and quite quickly.

After going through the metal detector, I was told to take a seat in front of a window and then called in a couple of minutes. I stupidly thought that was the interview, but he just checked my invite, ID, fingerprints and took a photo and then told me to go upstairs. He was pleasant and friendly.

When I went upstairs, I was in a large room with about 100 people. Workers came out of the various rooms and called out names. It was entertaining watching them try to pronounce all the various names. One lady just spelled a name as she had no idea. After about 10 minutes, I was called to my room by a man. He swore me in and then invited me to sit. My husband had made me swear not to tell jokes or try to have a laugh, just get in and out, but he was very friendly and I was able to have a little banter.

He asked me six questions. I can't remember all of them, but I definitely got who is the president, name 2 of the longest rivers in the US, one of the writers of the Federalist Papers and why did the colonists come to America. I was relieved to not get any wrong and to get that part over with. Then came the English exam and he made a joke about how I shouldn't have any problem being a Native English speaker. I had to write a sentence and read one.

Then came the really tricky part. He reviewed all the questions from my application and I was happy that I had a mask on for once as I could hide my laughter. You know the ones I'm talking about - are you a communist, terrorist, paramilitary? Ever been arrested, deported, worked at a prison or labor camp? Ever pretended to be a US citizen or lied to a government official. Ever forced yourself on anyone? I think there was one about whether I had ever contemplated overthrowing the goverment. I can't remember all the questions, but that seemed like the longest part of the interview.

He told me then or possibly before that I had been approved and I was delighted to find out that I could come back for the oath ceremony 10 days later. I asked if anyone could come with me as my family members had expressed interest, but he said no due to COVID. I had already expected that answer. We exchanged some more pleasantries. He gave me my invite for the ceremony. He told me that my interview was easy as it was obviously not a marriage of convenience - We have been together 20 years, married for 14 and have 2 kids together. I asked if he saw many fake marriages and he said he did, a lot! I think I was in and out in about an hour. It's efficient and not a bad place.

So that is that. My journey will hopefully before over next weekend. I originally applied in 2014, came here in 2015 and applied for naturalization in March of this year.

I am curious about how officer gave you 10 days later date of Oath ceremony instead of saying the words that I received from him.

Thank you and congratulations to you too! I was wondering the same when I read yours because I heard a woman also getting an appointment on the same day before I went in. The officer was handing her a paper and telling her to come in that day. Maybe they only have a certain number of appointments and we may have got some of the last ones before the holidays. My interview (and that of the lady I overheard) was the day before yours.

I'm sure you'll get your appointment quickly.

Congratulations on the baby as well!!

No, I’m still waiting. Tried to call (automated answering machine wouldn’t transfer the call to speak with anyone) and also tried to send in a request but they say it’s not outside of the limit despite the gentleman that was supposed to do the interview telling me 7 months was long enough to have to wait longer.
