I was in the same sex marriage, with same scenario that you have, if you can't fix your marriage, reapply on your own and start the divorce process as USCIS will give you 90 (maybe more due to covid) days to submit the divorce decree! -

You can easily use your passport and the letter, that's what I did when I used to have my 2 year green card, never had any problem including coming back to the US from overseas -
