Hello y'all,

I recently received my SSN card. However I'm not being able to apply for credit card, credit score reports ... Every time I enter my SSN it says the information isn't valid.

I called SSA and they told me I won't be able to apply for this benefits cause my SSN is pretty new.

Have you guys went through a same situation?

I wasn't able either and after being rejected by many banks, finally made it to Capital One. You need to build a credit, so maybe your spouse can add you on one of their bank acc as a joint ,and then apply for credit cards. Go with basic ones, like $200 limit.

It took about 4 months for my wife to generate a credit report after I added her to my existing credit card....She arrived in July 2017.....I added her to my CC immediately....Credit Karma generated a credit report in November.

Yep i did experience this in 2018. What my husband did was called one of his credit company and made me his authorized user then they sent me a credit card on my name. That's how i gain my instant higher credit score(standing 700+ credit score)

The easiest way to get items added to a credit report is to add the spouse as an authorized user.   I did this even before we were married.  Capital One, AMEX, BBVA and gas cards were easy to do.  You can do Capital One online just by entering the ssn as 000-00-0001.  Crazy thing is now my wife has a credit history that predates her birth ;)   AMEX member since '86.   Chase and Fidelity wouldn't add her without a SSN.

She did have an ITIN but the credit card companies are usually smart enough to know the difference.  For example Capital One would accept an authorized user as 000-00-0001 but not as ITIN 9XX-YY-XXXX where YY is 50 to 65, 70 to 88, 90 to 92 and 94 to 99.

When she got to the US and got a SSN she applied for a separate Capital One card.  She now has a score around 800 and we added a car loan in her name.  Crazy that her score is higher than mine.

I received my EAD combo card around August. After over a month has passed and the SSN card hasn't arrived I decided called my local office. They scheduled an appointment so I could be able to apply for it in person.I haven't received my SSN card yet (it's been 4 weeks thus far). However they provided me the SSN through the phone.
