Because if it is true, it will affect K1 cases, too. :(

But it says inside the US, it is different from the first halt which was in April. Because K1 holders have to apply for the green card inside the united states.

You said k1 which is quite different than an adjustment of status application.

I mean the whole process. When you can't get your green card ( adjustment of status process), practically K1 visa is worthless.

That article is too vague.

"The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services told employees this week that a “general hold” on permanent residency applications filed from immigrants within the United States would remain in place. But it updated a list of exemptions to the hold in a Wednesday email and other internal communication seen by CQ Roll Call. It was not clear when the hold was originally implemented."

"The US immigration process requires a great deal of knowledge, planning, time, patience, and a significant amount of money.  It is quite a journey!"

It’s funny you say it would make the k1 worthless because so many people go that route ONLY because it gets them here faster-no other reason; they don’t think of AOS (but then complain once they get here they can’t work, etc...it’s like ummm that’s what you signed up for) It’s such a double standard.

I don't want to live and work in a country illegally however , I love my fiance to the moon and back. Yes, I chose K1 for its fast track but it contains all rights to stay and work, too.

I'm afraid ,if this unknown source of news is right, they are going to stop K1 visa, too.

The article I read about this, also not from an official government source, stated that the hold is in place so that USCIS can devote as many resources as possible to citizenship applications, temporarily. During the COVID-19 shutdown, many USCIS staff worked from home and continued to adjudicate petitions so such things continued to move through the system. N-400 requires an in-person Interview and oath ceremony so they ground to a halt. Let’s not forget there’s an election later this year and more citizens means more potential voters. We saw a concerted effort to get N-400s through the system quickly 4 years ago also.

Moving resources from I-485s temporarily is not a bad thing. You are still in authorized stay once you have the NOA1 and remain so as long as it takes them to adjudicate the I-485, be it 2 months or 2 years.

Sounds like what we already know (that operations have been reduced) with the additional little piece of info that the focus during re-opening will be catching up on naturalization. Which makes sense.

The rest of the article consists of only unclear statements and some agency bashing by an employee.

That’s where you are mistaken. The K-1 itself does not contain “all rights to stay and work”. It gives you the right to apply to stay and work. It’s not a guaranteed approval. You still have to meet several requirements. If you want a visa that gives you “all rights to stay and work”, the CR-1 is your friend.

You are right. I know all of them. K1 visa used to be a fast and easy route. I might make a mistake. anyway, I should wait and see what happens in the future.

Thanks for your comments.

Have you noted how long it takes for a K1 and AOS to process (if you are given a K1 visa)?

it is not the fastest way from what i see and high fraud countries are so often denied a K1 and have to marry and go the CR1 route
