Just saw a dude pull up to a homeless woman and hand her a bag of food. Times like these really bring out the best in people. It gave me no pleasure to call the cops on both of them for not social distancing enough.

I haven't turned on actual news in my house in several years.  Probably 10 or more, other than a brief snippet online or similar.  Yesterday, the wife turned on a YT video showing CBS coverage of a press conference, and reporters commentary.  I listened from the other room for about 30 minutes before I asked her to either turn it off or wear her headphones.  It really is sad what "journalism" passes for today.

Some statistics from my part of the woods today...

 

• We had quite an aggressive rise in cases over a 1000 in one day, supposedly because the independent labs are clearing backlogs. These were cases of persons tested last month.
• We're now over 5000 cases and over 100 deaths. There are a high ratio of hospitalizations compared to those resting at home.
• Major outbreaks almost in every county and city and has spread into the majority of all nursing homes.
• Despite having a high number of cases there had previously been no testing facilities in the city, that's changing as of today, however no test kits yet, and they say they'd only be able to test a few a day.
• Our local hospital with only a few ICU beds? Full up. I'm told patients are lining the halls and they are having to reuse gear. The FD and PD also ran out of supplies. Overflow of cases from my town into other states + they are sending any trauma patient to other states via helicopter.
• Several people supposedly died after being turned away from the hospital.
• UMMC has developed a type of vent using about $50 worth of materials. It's not ideal but could be potentially used if approved.
• The National Guard is on hand to help handle the mass cases at nursing homes, but even they have homemade masks.
• The temporary field hospital in Baltimore is almost ready to go.
• Our town is really struggling with the ability to find supplies. There are checkpoints to prevent us crossing over into other states so we cannot shop there. Meat situation is a little better. But dry and canned goods are non-existing. Some local guys have been trying to work with markets to help deliver stuff to people in need. Amish have been helping too.
• They keep telling us to order out groceries and have them deliver, but there's really nothing left. You place the order and they cancel it right away.
• Police are now doing 'compliance checks' in Walmart to see if they are only allowing a few people in at a time. 
• Had multiple outbreaks at different pharmacies. You can imagine this has caused some confusion and issues with people obtaining meds.
• Some restaurants have started selling groceries, supposedly doing a better business than they ever did before!
• Someone kindly donated some N95s to my sister's practice... so at least she now has something.
• Kids giving my husband hell because they don't get to walk across a stage to graduate and employees just wanting to sit at home, do nothing, and get paid.

 

Every single doctor has cancelled on me now.. they reschedule for May and I just laugh... nothing is going to change in May. It's all exhausting at this point...
