Nah, I was joking. :P The ex made some money on Bitcoin in its early days (he had a computer set up to mine) but cashed out well before we broke up, and before it went to super crazy prices.

I had a co-worker who lives in Monrovia who had 3 computers set up to mine it. He is a multi-millionaire due to Bitcoin but he still takes the bus to work and doesn't have a personal car, but he does have a plane though

Update from the UK: just got off the phone with Al who is over there now. I asked him whether anyone seems to give a toss about Harry and Meghan and he said no one with two cells that may or may not even be of the brain variety cares. The big to do right now is about someone named Priti Patel (sp?) who is Not Very Well Liked by her staff (I think she is the Home Secretary now). I couldn't follow that well because (1) he is super jet lagged and went straight to work today from Heathrow and (2) our friend Will then took him out for several pints after in the City so there's that. Oh and (3) it was 1:30 in the morning when he called me.

Boiler, you know anything about Priti Patel? I just Googled her and there are many, many articles in the Guardian about her but I can't figure out what is going on from a quick skim. I guess she's not getting briefed by her staff because people don't trust her, and Boris is saying that she has his confidence anyway? And she's a bully and called her staff not family friendly names?

I do, she introduced a points based immigration scheme, sort of similar to Canada and Australia etc.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Thanks, I will check it out when I get home (made myself get out of the house today). Still a little confused about all the bullying accusations.

I think that is related to her pushing forward policies not liked by certain sectors.

Yeah the big thing I saw and probably what got me banned from the Immigration subreddit page. She instituted a rule that you have to speak English inorder to qualify for basically a low level work visa in the UK. Basically the equivalent of a H2b visa here

Is that also required for spousal visas too? I'm only asking on a theoretical level, because if I ever do move over there it wouldn't be an issue for me, obviously. I can see the benefit in having a basic level of English comprehension and language skills in order to help assimilate better but how much? What's required for a builder or a housewife to function in their roles is going to be far less than for someone working in retail for example.

Not that I saw no. That was one of big things about them leaving the EU because before people from Bulgaria or Romania were coming to the UK to work. They had to be let in because they had a EU passport and they found work without speaking much English, and there was nothing the UK could do about it

Yeah, I remember when I was living there in 2005-06 there was a big to do about all the Polish people who were moving in and supposedly changing things. Now it was my first time living there so I had little to compare it to but it didn't seem to me that there was a shortage of people who I could make myself understood by or who I understood. I think the biggest problem I had was with the native Bristolians. You have no idea how shocked I was when someone working in a shop said "alright me lover" as a greeting. Also everyone sounded like a pirate, so there's that.

Blowing a gale, cold, and all the snow we had last weekend is going horizontally

Not sure I should offer that many trees here are already sprouting new leaves, some coming in so fast that the old leaves didn't have time previously to fall off.  Cars will soon be yellow with oak pollen.

If it makes anyone feel better, we will be in the deep freeze on Wed.-Thurs., hopefully for the last time this season.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Going to be 80F here on Thursday which is just gross. Sunday will be mid 50s, much better.

Boiler, today the DM is alllll about the outrageous costs for H & M's security costs, breathless reporting about their frivolous, jetsetting lifestyles that are a slap in the face to Her Majesty and the special bond she shares with Diana's youngest boy.

Horrendous here...

Anyway I would imagine that security and air fares are a significant cost. Maybe Canada should now pay.

It's difficult to tell how much of this is hyperbole and how much is the actual logistics. I somehow sense that a solution will be worked out. It's hardly like H&M are going to be left unprotected. What's the outcome that the DM and the Sun and the Express and everyone else wants? That their wellbeing be compromised to prove some point? Or that they be forced back to the UK to stay in line and be resentful? Or to get Harry to divorce that common, vulgar American who never deserved him in the first place?

Wow, I really do identify with Meghan.
