Well we had a RE class... Always surprised with the reaction when I mention that to Muricans.

I think it's cool the lady wants to live her life the way she wants, but at the same time, people enamored with the past tend to, with near exclusivity, look at the parts they like, ignoring the other parts. In 1959 she could've been beaten without much (if any) legal recourse. Although, at the time, plenty of housewives killed their husbands with arsenic or ethylene glycol poisoning. I tend to just focus on the present.

My wife says she would love to live like it was 1959, 30 plus years before she was born. I'd enjoy it too :) She doesn't have to work but wants to help support her family back in the Philippines.  She is working 2nd shift in a nursing home.  I mostly work from home and travel.   So when I'm in town I am her uBER and we take turns making breakfast.  If I have to get up early for an east coast conference call I'll toss some cinnamon or orange rolls in the oven.  Now she says she really enjoys her work and wants to get her LPN.  Maybe starting next fall.  Guess I will be working more too!  I think the 1959 ideal has sailed ship.

My wife is wishing she could live in the year 2019 not 1959. She honestly feels that her job as a SAHM to 4 kids with the youngest being 3 is never ending.... So I do try and help out as much as possible, and we make the older kids help out as well. We are making them help out like in the Filipino style even though the two older kids have no Filipino blood.
