I'm curious why you bothered to ask here if you already had your mind made up. You are doing exactly the opposite of what everyone is advising you to do. 

 

He had his interview just a month ago, there was a document missing that you submitted after the interview, plus it was a holiday month so everything takes a bit longer.

 

When I had my interview in Amsterdam for my K1, it took 3 weeks before I got my passport with visa back. And there was nothing missing in my file, there was no holiday. They were just a bit more busy than usual; it happens. The US embassies in western Europe are pretty efficient and it doesn't take them months to issue visas once approved. He could receive his visa anytime now, it's probably a matter of days, or maybe a week. Why would you want to stop this process so close to the finish line?

 

Is he really planning to just come for a visit, or is he planning to stay and apply for AOS? I'm sure that's what some people here are wondering, and the officer at his POE will too.

I guess I don't understand frustration at what you've termed a long wait of 3 months...only to request the passport back and self-delay the process even further as a result?

 

I get that you want to see each other...but there was a higher possibility that the visa would be issued quite sooner rather than later...requesting the passport back was counter-productive to that.  It just halted him so close to the finish line, so to speak.

Explain again, how does the absence of passport at the Embassy STOPS the process? Please provide the link to this info. Thanks!

They need to stick the visa in the passport; if the passport is not there, you will have to mail it back.  It will go to the mailroom, then to the right section of the embassy, and finally, to the pile of received documents for the immigration section.  You do not go the top of the pile magically; someone has to reopen your file, see it is ready, etc.  

 

Depending on how efficient and busy they are, it could be 2 extra days, or a few weeks.  

 

ETA: I won't be able to find a link for you, but this has been my experience with government offices; as a worker and a citizen.  Some of it is logical, some of it depends on how well that particular embassy is organized, staff vacations, etc.

Shouldn’t need a link to explain that they can’t put the visa in his passport if they don’t have his passport..
