And it's also about intentionally standing down and giving the OK to a dictator and his buddies while they literally murder thousands of brave men, women, and children... all because of their love of freedom, their ethnicity, and their Christian faith.

The rest of the US military have been ordered to stand down. They have been ordered to do nothing to defend their allies, while Erdogan slaughters them. The 50 were for show (see we're leaving, you can watch it on tv! yay!). It's the rest remaining that have been ordered to do something with far reaching consequences...

The Kurds are of the Sunni Islamic faith not Christian. There are Christians through out Syria and many Assyrian Christians in that part of Syria but it is predominantly Muslim

There are many ethnic Christians in the group and in the territory that I understand Erdogan intends to kill, just the same as everyone else. This is one of the particular points that has some religious 'pundits' riled up.

So we have a larger presence in "Kurdistan"  how many, and how are the Turks not slaughtering them as well?

So a tribal war?  Those are the best.

You are generalizing way to much. There are basically 3 different types of Kurds based on politics but are ethnically the same people. You have the PKK (Communist Kurds) in Syria and Turkey, Kurdistan (Controlled by the KDP), and the Iranian Kurds. The PKK declared NE Syria as  "Rojava" a autonomousregion during the Syrian Civil war, and by all accounts Assad agreed to this because they didn't fight him at all outside of some small skirmishes of differences in Qamishli and Dier ez-Zior. PKK has been fighting a guerilla campaign in SE Turkey for decades over wanting autonomy and self-governance, and they have the leader of the PKK in prison as we speak. The KDP and the PKK do not get along at all. So the KDP has actually been helping the Turks go in Iraq and root out the PKK bases in Iraq for a few years now.

But another reason why Turkey is doing this is because the area around Idlib that they supported the last of the FSA to go is slowly being taken back over by the Syrian Army.

They call themselves Assyrians have lived in the region for 2000+ years and still speak Aramaic (the language of Jesus). Turkey isn't going to kill them unless they are with the YPG which is the Kurdish militia that allowed Christians and Arabs to join in the fight against ISIS/Daesh.

I suggest going to Syria.livemap to look at the map and the groups involved.

What you described is exactly a tribal war between two of our nominal allies, how do we chose sides?  I know Erdogan is a real peach, but isn't Turkey still part of NATO?  Maybe the NATO high command should be getting in the middle of this?

Many civilians already dead, including children... they've bombed oil fields and a dam that supplies water to 2 million and many villages. This has good coverage from reports around the area. https://twitter.com/ELINTNews

The United States has spent EIGHT TRILLION DOLLARS fighting and policing in the Middle East. Thousands of our Great Soldiers have died or been badly wounded. Millions of people have died on the other side. GOING INTO THE MIDDLE EAST IS THE WORST DECISION EVER MADE.....

....IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY! We went to war under a false & now disproven premise, WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. There were NONE! Now we are slowly & carefully bringing our great soldiers & military home. Our focus is on the BIG PICTURE! THE USA IS GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE!

Honestly? I think it's a very obvious choice. Turkey hasn't been much of an ally to anybody except for the axis of evil since Erdogan came into power.

Nope, you are wrong. The Kurds in both Iraq and Syria helped us out exponentially. While at the same time we turned our back on them twice now when they needed us most. Why in the hell would anyone side with us is beyond me.

Easy, we leave a permanent base in Rojava like what they have in Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan.

So we have to stay forever? If one POTUS leads us into a foreign land and the people want out later we are obligated to stay until...

With this thinking we should have stayed in Vietnam. 18 years in Afghanistan is no probs I am guessing.

So we stay forever. The only way they stay safe is if we stay forever and protect them. Sounds like we are playing the worlds policeman then.

Your rationale is completely wrong here and I will explain why. We are currently still fighting in Afghanistan even though we should have pulled out a while ago, and we were still fighting in Vietnam when we left. We are currently not fighting ANYONE in Rojava but we were asked to be there by the ruling party of that region. That part of Syria was very stable overall and we helped provide a bulwark against the Turks who have been acting less an less like a ally to us. So we should have pulled out of Incrilik AB and did a permanent base in Syria.

So you think we need more bases and keep spending our fortunes overseas? Disagree. We need to bring our troops home and let whoever settle this how they see fit. These fortunes could be spent back home on things that benefit Americans and enrich the populous here.

And I am saying we should close them all down and bring our troops home. Why do we need to have bases overseas and spend our fortunes and blood sweat and tears in far away lands?
