Unlike a lot of Americans, I have actually been in some of these countries.  I know (some of) what the people are trying to escape.  Trust me, the detention centers that the media is trying to whip us into a frenzy over are nicer than the huts they lived in back home.

 

I have seen mud houses with dirt floors (mud when it's raining), and leaky thatch roofs.  No electricity,  no running water.  And multiple families living there.  

 

When Trump called Haiti a #$hithole country, we was being accurate, not demeaning.  So it's understandable why people risk their lives to leave that behind.  Even living in squalor here in the US is preferable to what they leave behind. (For most)
