Hi. I'd read somewhere on VJ a few weeks ago speculation that USCIS may likely approve cases with strong evidence without interviews due the backlog that the shutdown has caused. I was hoping that would be the case, so I was relieved when that turned out to be true for us!

 

One other thing going through my mind is: we submitted Noom's citizenship application 2 months ago; his biometrics appt was scheduled for early April and was canceled due to the COVID shutdown. The fact that he'll likely have his citizenship interview in a couple of months makes me wonder if that was additional motivation to approve the ROC case. No way to know for sure, but maybe that helped?

We are having decision-paralysis on whether we should file for Citizenship or not. The ultimate goal is Citizenship, but also do not want to delay the 10 year Green Card.

I got the impression early on from my reading/research that applying for citizenship can actually speed up the ROC process. I don't understand why anyone would delay applying for citizenship as soon as they're qualified (unless of course citizenship isn't the goal). Some people say it is more work., but for the US citizenship application we just submitted additional docs/evidence collected during the year between filing for ROC.  Of course each person has to decide on the best course for him/her.

it is frustrating to wait so long and to hear nothing. good luck to you. 

 

our case went to Nebraska service center and that added to the frustration because the VJ reporting ROC assumes VT or CA, so  the VJ reporting/tracking didn't work. Sitting in a black hole never feels good.

Interview was originally scheduled for April 14 but then canceled due to COVID-19 and app status changed back to interview ready to be scheduled.

Congrats! Thanks for sharing. This is 2nd instance in past week of ROC approval without interview after AOS without interview either. Hope this becomes more common.

My SRC case is also stuck at "Ready to be scheduled for interview" since the 18th of March. Fingers crossed more start moving in this direction.

I am. But I'd like to have dual citizenship. To do this I need to submit an application to the South African consulate to retain my South African Citizenship before I apply to become a US citizen. The South African Consulates are all closed until further notice.

Oh ok. My home country does not allow dual citizenship, so no factor in my case.

I feel like I sort of understand the "decision paralysis" at the moment. Applying for citizenship only speeds up the ROC process in the sense that citizenship and the i-751 are decided upon together at the citizenship interview, however, interviews can't happen right now while USCIS is closed... That is my understanding, at least. Has anyone filed the N-400 now while USCIS is closed and found their i-751 was sped up?

Yes for sure I can say that or consider it pure co-incidence. My N400 application checks were cashed on May 8th and May 11th my ROC was approved. :)
