My guess is they will be closed as they generally have the local and the US holidays off. Most of the staff there are Filipinos so I would assume they are closed.

Well looks like my husbands biometrics appointment for Monday is cancelled. I wonder when they were going to notify me? If I didn't keep abreast of current events I may have taken the 2 hour drive for his scheduled appointment! Things may be shut down much longer since the president is not getting his way. We need to give him 5 7 billion for the wall Mexico was supposed to pay for. 🤦‍♀️

Just as a heads up, looks like the London Embassy is closed for Boxing Day (December 26th) as well. Shouldn't come as a surprise for any of us with UK ties but just in case you were unsure whether or not the US embassy would take a mainly British holiday into account...Yes =P!

There is apparently a gofund me campaign for "beautiful steel slats pikes" that is now at $13Mil 

 

Some say that USCIS might not affected by shutdown, since it is not government funded, but paid for by the application fees. Our $535 non tax dollars at work.

I'd like to maybe widen your horizons a bit.

 

1. Well looks like my husbands biometrics appointment for Monday is cancelled. I wonder when they were going to notify me?  They never contact when holidays are approaching. It's your responsibility to keep posted on these matters. You check web sites, USCIS, NVC and most of all your Embassy for the most current situation.

 

The U.S. Embassy London and our Consulates in Belfast and Edinburgh are CLOSED for Christmas.

Christmas Closures

We will be closed and there will be NO visa or passport services on these days:

• Monday, 24 December (closed by Executive Order)
• Tuesday, 25 December (UK Boxing Day holiday)
• Wednesday, 26 December (Christmas Day holiday)

The U.S. Embassy in London and our Consulates in Belfast and Edinburgh will re-open for business on Thursday, 27 December.
We will also be open on Monday, December 31st.

 

2. If I didn't keep abreast of current events I may have taken the 2 hour drive for his scheduled appointment!  This validates my answer above. This is for everyone out there. It is your responsibility to check your Embassy/Consulates website for the most current conditions and operating hours before you make you plans to attend any interview or procedure.

 

3. Things may be shut down much longer since the president is not getting his way.  So Americans want to keep those who are coming into our country illegally by building a wall but you and your fiancé are spending a year of your time, plus all this money to do it legally. Don't you find something wrong with this picture?

 

4. We need to give him 5 7 billion for the wall Mexico was supposed to pay for.  Understanding the amount of money that if the wall were to be built the US would save from the "welfare" programs by those entering the country illegally is more than enough to pay for the wall. Let's look at a few. If an illegal Alien (IA) is not using the medical facility without payment there is a savings. (A IA uses the emergency room for their primary care and they are not required to pay up front but leave and are never heard from again. Their bill goes unpaid, the hospital charges it off by raising rates to those who pay either from personal funds or from medical insurance. Medical insurance goes up and everyday people who pay taxes and buy health insurance see an increase in premiums).  If the IA is not using welfare there is a savings. If the IA is not using the food stamp program their is a savings there. The list goes on and on. So add up those savings, that your and my taxes pay so an IA can come into the country illegally is a valid savings that could be used for the WALL. So Mexico might not be sitting down at a desk and writing out a check for payment to install the wall doesn't mean it cannot be paid for from just the cost saving of keeping Mexican Citizen's and other South American's out. So yes you don't see Mexico stepping up but the savings will be there to pay for the wall.

 

Here is a few statics I can share with you.

• In 2014, 63 percent of households headed by a non-citizen reported that they used at least one welfare program, compared to 35 percent of native-headed households.
• Welfare use drops to 58 percent for non-citizen households and 30 percent for native households if cash payments from the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) are not counted as welfare. EITC recipients pay no federal income tax. Like other welfare, the EITC is a means-tested, anti-poverty program, but unlike other programs one has to work to receive it.
• Compared to native households, non-citizen households have much higher use of food programs (45 percent vs. 21 percent for natives) and Medicaid (50 percent vs. 23 percent for natives).

I personally have no problem with anyone who can receive a visa legally to immigrate to this country. None what so ever. What I have a problem with are those who walk across the boarder that are not screened for illness's, if the have the ability to be self sustaining and can contribute to the country and not be a burden. It's everything that you and I have done for someone in our family to immigrate to this country legally I want them to adhere to. I don't think that is much to ask.

"Not-citizen" doesn't mean illegal. A legally admitted refugee would be "non-citizen" for at least 5 years, and yes sure as heck they will rightfully take advantage of social support program because they are REFUGEES who came to country a few hundred dollars, clothes on their back, and hope in their souls. Many do not have language at least initially. Most will use that support to get on their feet, learn language, find a trade. You know like expected from "huddles masses yearning to breathe free"

Well we've already got one wacko on Facebook claiming they are closed down because of the government shutdown and it's all Trump's fault. Nevermind the fact they get every Christmas that falls on a weekday off via executive order.
