Americans seem to like just about any accents in our experience to be honest.... as for handsome strapping Englishman, well. I don’t want to start comparing physical characterics by nationality but seeing as we are just joking around here, far more likely to find those at home

Maybe consider a degree in the UK that includes a year of study in the US? There are many such options and the cost of studying the US for the year is usually something like 1/4 of your UK tuition fees + living expenses. That way you would at least get to experience life in the US, and maybe have a chance of meeting someone over there.

Agree with others here - a student visa (with proof of ability to pay tuition) is a good chance to at least get here and determine if you really want to live here.  Once you graduate, you may be able to find a company willing to sponsor a work visa, or you may find the girl of your dreams while studying for an exam in the library

The medical field isn't a bad choice either.  Especially through the US military. I have not done any research on the subject, but have heard it can be a shorter route to being a USC. Any US military here to comment?

large companies can do InterCompany transfer, Accenture, Microsoft, Oracle, Workday.

 

And if you succeed in your transfer, you can nudge your employer to apply for your green card. 

 

though you have to be accepted to work in their office in the UK first and make yourself a valuable asset to them (and to land a job, more often than not, you need to have a tertiary education, esp from a reputable academic institution)

 

(to me, NHS is one of the pulling factors to the UK - [less hassle and headache compared to the traversty of American Healthcare in terms of the stuff you have to pay], but Brexit made it less appealing nowadays)

See this as a long-term goal. Get a good job and work hard at it, look for a company that has offices in the USA and is known to regularly transfer employees around the world. And travel a bit more - the world is your oyster so why limit yourself to 4% of this wonderful world? Travel is the best advice to anyone who wants to move here because once you start working here you can kiss goodbye to generous annual leave allowances and dozens of countries a £25 Easyjet flight away... Maybe by then the shine will have worn off and the thought of paying $200 for a trip to a doctor along with other annoyances of living here will make other options more attractive.... 

 

Playing devil's advocate but maybe the girlfriend was sensing that you were more in love with the idea of living here than in a future with her. What would you do if you met the perfect American girl but she's desperate to live in the U.K.?

I have travelled all across Europe and I know that I never get the same feeling I get than when I am in America. I have been there around 11 times in the last 3 years including a 3 week and a 7 week stint there and I could seriously see myself being happy there.

 

As for finding a perfect American girl who wants to live in the UK, that wouldn’t be an issue. I’d be happy to stay here. Maybe I just have a thing for American girls lol

You were implying that was the basis for a relationship/marriage decision, being advice you provided in the context of OP desiring to permanently move to the US. As you said, it’s almost 2019, we’re certainly beyond fairy tales based on the handsome prince.

There are plenty of American girls that want to live in the UK. The question for many in those type of relationships is can you navigate the UK rules? It typically provides a greater stumbling block.
