Nearly 10% of American adults believe chocolate milk come from brown cows, finds study

    Chocolate milk is, by all accounts, delicious. 

    It’s also an incredibly simple concoction: just milk, made chocolatey. As the name would suggest.

    And yet, it turns out many people do not understand how chocolate milk is made: some genuinely believe chocolate milk is milk from brown cows.

    Whether those brown cows are also thought to produce cocoa and sugar is not clear.

    In a study by the Innovation Center of US Dairy, it was found that seven per cent of Americans believe chocolate milk comes from brown cows. That works out at about 16.4m people.

    These weren’t children either - the research was conducted on 1,000 people over the age of 18.

    A whopping 48 per cent of people said they didn’t know where chocolate milk came from.

Hamburgers come from the hamburger trees and I believe most believe hot dogs are made from dog meat.

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Ok so 7% believe it comes from brown cows. Ridiculous, but whatever.

 

What's much worse to me is that 48% don't even know where it comes from at all.

I tend to agree.  Man is the only animal in the kingdom which drinks milk after weaning... and from a foreign animal.

 

Another puzzling thing to me is - how do they milk almonds?  Can’t even find the udders, personally.

No doubt.  That statistic was very troubling to me as well.

The SHOCK! The HORROR! Them's fightin words right there!!!! ;) 

 

I drink so much milk it's (admittedly) probably overkill.  My fiance was shocked - but in a good way - because he's the exact same (we are going to need to invest in some special milk access program when he gets here! lol).  I love the stuff!  Give me some full heavy cream for my coffee and I'm a very happy woman (a touch of honey and it's beyond divine)!  I settle for half/half most days - more cost efficient.  And cheese?!?! I once heard someone say there was such a thing as "too much cheese"...well I never!  And yogurt - especially when I make it myself.....then there is ice cream, whipped cream, butter....there is no end to the wonders that simple plain milk is and all the extra goodies that can be derived from it!  

 

I suppose the upside is - if ya'll don't like it then that just leaves more for me!!!

It was interesting, on my trip to NZ, we had booked several motor lodges around the country based on our travel plans, and when we got to the first one in Hastings the proprietor asked me if I wanted "whole" or "lowfat".  I looked at him sort of perplexed, and then he explained to me that upon check-in the motor lodges give you a pint of milk.  I had never seen that before.

I couldn't drink milk as a child, so it was special formula for me. By the time I reached a point where I seemed to slightly tolerate milk as an adult, I had no taste for it. It just tastes disgusting to me, and I still am bothered by consumption of it unless it is low fat or cooked form. I can tolerate small amounts of cheese and yoghurt, but for the most part I even find yoghurt to be especially unpleasant. I use soy or almond milk out of necessity.
