Does anyone know if you can you apply for AP after EAD has already been issued? Or just wait for renewal? Do they give you a new card? We didn’t know about it before we applied for AOS :(

Yes, you can apply separately, they give a separated document from the EAD that works as your AP.

Hi everyone!

We're in Brooklyn and applied for AOS, AP, EAD together. Sent package on April 8 and recieved 3 NOAs on April 18. Since then there is absolute silence, we haven't recieved any letter for the biometrics appointment and it's kind of upsetting since it's been 4 weeks.

I need to work at Columbia during my grad school and will definitely need employment authorization. Also because of no SSN I am basically unable to do anything like open bank account, use the public library etc. 😢

The lawyer just tells us to wait. Back when the K-1 process was happening I was on top of everything and he was basically useless. Any advice/suggestions on what to do?

You should call uscis and find out what is going on. You should wait 1/2 weeks more might get it. I rmr my file was accepted on sept 11 had biometrics on 6 October. So I think you should call USCIS.

I want to add you are not as limited as you think without a SSN. A bank account maybe hard to get but you can definitely get a library card.

Get your name added to your husbands Utility Bill if possible and that will be enough to prove residency in NY. Proof of residency will help a lot. National Grid added my wives name on the bill with mine and did not require a SSN at all.

With your name on a utility bill you can get a library card.

The utility bill will also help with a bank account as well.

I agree with @philipk1. You have to call and ask to speak to a level 2 officer to tell you what's going on. Another poster went through the same thing you went through to find out that the post office didn't deliver his notice and he missed his biometrics.

For the bank account, you can go to bank of america with your passport and they'll open the account for you.

Thank you so much for the responses everyone!

1. I just spoke to the USCIS officer, he said I can't transfer to tier 2 so I have to tell him what the issue is. He said that since it's been more than 30 days he will send a service request and I will hear back within 15 to 30 days LOL.

2. I will definitely try utility bill at the Brooklyn Public Library and see if that works! Thanks for the tip.

3. For the bank account, husband wants it to be in Chase since his account is there and it'll be easy to make transactions in the future. We tried utility bills with them but they said that anyone can add a person to their bill, you need to have credit history which you don't have either so come back with SSN. I can survive on cash that's no problem but it is an annoyance.

Hoping to hear from USCIS soon. There's a work opportunity at Columbia that I can not miss.

Thank you all again for your replies, wishing you all the best!
