Support is one thing, but I'm giving OP actual informations and telling him what rules are. Rules he can confirm with USCIS websites.  You're giving some innacurate info about stuff being added to the visa by random officers..

All I'm doing is passing on information an American emigration officer gave me

i thought this forum was to help and support each other, not to jump down someone's throat because you don't like what they said? Doing that doesn't help anyone, and is quite nasty.

Aaron-I'll send you a message privately as to the information the American Emigration Officer gave me when I get home

Please share your information with us too as it might help other people.

@Roel is notorious for his lack of sugarcoating but he is usually right. I think the EO gave you the advice to get an Advance Parole once you get your greencard. That's after you get the visa and file for AOS.

I also think that OP needs to look at the visa guides a bit better cause I think he is getting a lot of things from CR1and K1 visa confused now.

We have seen many proofs here that IMMIGRATION officers are wrong and immigration lawyers tend to be wrong also.

Best thing to do is follow USCIS guidelines.

It's not helpful to anyone to provide the wrong answer and keep insisting that you're right when corrected.  It's nasty and harmful for you to keep insisting that you are right.

I never said i was right or wrong, I haven't continued to insist I'm right, all i did was say what the american emigration officer told me

generally the CR1 process is vastly superior and right now is only slightly longer (maybe a couple of months longer than a k1). there was a time when there was a significant difference, but not anymore. People have different reasons for filing a k1 over a cr1 (we have our own reasons) but it is, for most people, the most (and cheaper) option.

Thanks to everyone for the replies...with regards to a CR 1. What are your reasons for chposin it over the K1, and also, once started it true that she will need to remain outside the United States the entire time? Right now she travels on a B1-B2 Visa.

There are pros and cons to the K1 and the CR1.  Look at the comparison chart in the Guides.

CR1 seems to be better because the spouse can work and travel as soon as she arrived on the CR1 visa. With K1, you need to first apply for AOS (which is about 1,200$ right now) and wait, wait, wait for work/travel permits and green card. And spouse cannot leave US until she receive proper documents. So she will need to remain in the US for at least 6 months or so.

If she arrives on CR1 visa, she can travel whenever she wants.

Also as soon as she receive her K1 or Cr1 visa, her B2 visa will be canceled.
