To all those who say that invitation letters are NOT required, don't speak for all embassies.

I know for a fact that the embassy in Warsaw, Poland requires an "invitation" for a tourist visa, or they did in the past at the very least.  I don't know if they still do, the last family member who visited us was around 2010-2011.  I know this to be true because I helped my father fill out the forms for his 2 brothers and also my cousin.  The "invitation" is not an invitation per se, but form I-134, declaring that you will provide room and board for the tourist while they are here.  When I still lived with my parents we had no less than 7 family members visit and they ALL took that form signed by my parent(s).

thanks so much< maybe ill make one and send it over to her, but she wont hand it in unless asked for..i think thats the best bet..

Make sure that the person that is signing the letter states that they will make sure that she doesn't overstay her visa, and that they send this letter and want her to visit because you want to repay the great hospitality that her and her family showed to you when you visited Brazil (describe your trip shortly), you also should start the letter like "To whom it might concern, me, Brad..., American citizen by birth..." (you should put your address and phone #, no SSN necessary), if you send me your e-mail address I can send you the letter that my husband sent me when I applied for my Tourist Visa.

From the embassy in Poland:

"Interview and application forms are designed to elicit all necessary information. Applicants may want to consider bringing along documents that they feel are useful, but the consular officer may not choose to look at them if it appears that additional documents won’t make a difference in the adjudication."

https://pl.usembassy.gov/visas/tourism-visit/how-to-apply/

They do not require an invitation letter, nor an i134, and NO EMBASSY DOES! Although there are many website that claim so. The i-134 is for "For foreign nationals seeking admission or adjustment as lawful permanent residents or as immediate relatives, as familybased immigrants, and as certain employment based immigrants" that's it. Now did your family members bring it anyways, I'm sure they did, but it is not, was not required.

Vouching for someone else not breaking the law is not going to do anything at all.. You can't be held responsible for it, therefore it carries NO WEIGHT. It doesn't matter WHAT SO EVER that you want to "show them hospitality". This is getting ridiculous. The visa application process isn't based on "feelings".

I don't know how many times this needs to be said. This site is for legal and correct advise, I suggest you all to do some reading, properly sourced reading, not internet mythology.

To whom might concern, I'm here stating MY EXPERIENCE when filling for the same visa in the same country that the person is asking about, I used an invitation letter after a friend of mine DID THE SAME and got the visa approved as well, I never said that the letter is required, what I said is that the consul only asked me to handle her the letter and my prove of employment. I have no idea how it is done in other countries but I know plenty of cases in MY COUNTRY, that the invitation letter was used, the consul never told me that she was approving my visa because of the letter, but I also never heard of anyone IN MY COUNTRY that got denied because of same letter.

Peace!

There are differences between embassies, no one is saying there is not, but there are not differences in what can be/is viewed as credible evidence.

Here are a couple of things you in fact said:

Neither of those posts have any context of you  "stating your experience". You are giving advise, plain and simple. Which is fine if you at the same time let ppl know that it is in fact only your experience. Instead you questioned the legitimacy of the information that was given earlier in the thread about the invitation requirement, and dismissed the fact based information given by several VJ members, as well as gave specific advise on how to write a letter that isn't even required to begin with

I didn't say that it's exclusively for that, but when advise is in fact given, it needs to be correct. People spend a lot of time and money on these processes. You don't have to have be a lawyer or a paralegal to educate yourself on immigration laws and requirements.

I got a invitation letter from my now husband (was a friend at the time) when I applied for a TOURIST VISA back in 2012 in BRAZIL. I brought with me a bunch of documents to "prove" the statements that I made when filling the application and the consul that interviewed me only asked me to handle her 2 of them, my my employment certificate and the "INVITATION LETTER".

Better then me trying to convince anyone about it, take a look in to the Rio de Janeiro American Consulate website and look for yourself SHE DOES HAVE TO PROVE THAT SHE HAVE ENOUGH TIES IN BRAZIL and she can't do this with documents.

Goid luck to you guys!

I understand that there have been people who have used invitation letters as supporting documents to show that the person they say they are going to visit is really in the US but I challenge the notion that it is a requirement.

How would that work???

So if a family Brazil or Poland who can afford to take a vacation to the US and go to Disney World for 2 weeks will, not only have to personally know someone who lives here, but have that person write a letter for them? If the theory of having an invitation letter is true what happens to that family if they don't know a single person in America?

If you really think about it, it really is a silly misconception. The US would lose out on tens of millions of dollars (if not hundreds of millions) in the tourism industry alone if this was an official requirement.

I had my tourist visa interview at the same country and probably the same exact consulate that the ops gf is going to. They never asked for any documents, just reviewing answers from ds160.

All of my friends that have a b2 did not present ANY additional proof or document at the interview.

I had my tourist visa interview at the same country and probably the same exact consulate that the ops gf is going to. They never asked for any documents, just reviewing answers from ds160.

All of my friends that have a b2 did not present ANY additional proof or document at the interview.

did they even go in depth to figure out your ties to brasil?, thats interesting...

Welcome to VJ, a forum full of immigration experts and know-it-alls.  God forbid anybody says anything that doesn't match what they read on the DOS website.

Perhaps Mickey Mouse completes the I 134.

Or Donald Duck?
