Obviously you need the return tax from last year (2015), and if she has that I mean if she worker last year and she made at least $22000 than that's enough to support you , if not then she has to find a sponsor

food luck

Uh no. It's CURRENT income. If she's currently not working, it doesn't matter if she made 1 million dollars last year on her taxes.

If she's can obtain a job she will need a letter from her new employer and pay stubs. Also her last years W2 and tax transcripts (would be best) they are free from the IRS take a few days to arrive...

I search all over this site for this answer. As my income last year was lacking and I have two dependants.

If someone earned a million dollars last year and assuming it wasn't all spent it's safe to assume that very sane person would have the required assets to satisfy USCIS requirements (and in highly liquid form at that).

Part 7 of the I-864 instructions, pages 8 and 9, says that the NET VALUE of a home can be used, net value is the appraised value minus mortgage loan, liens, etc. It also says that an auto can be included, if there is more than 1 AND the person can show that at least 1 auto is not listed as an asset.

I used the house as an asset without a problem. I know my case may be different as our house is paid off, but if there is any equity, then that could be listed.

I believe the rule has changed and even a primary residence (house) can be used as an asset (at least the equity in it).

I don't think the rule has changed (unless I am mistaken), but rather that it was a discretionary issue. The house has to be easy liquified and without a large impact to the family. Often times that is why if the house is the only asset, that is it better to have a joint sponsor. There might be a lot of play in that with how much equity is in the house, if it is close to the asset minimums or if it is 600k or the like. It doesn't sound like in OP's case that there is a huge amount of equity.

He needs to have current income as stated before.

You need an employed sponsor.

Unemployed is same as your wife....

Does anyone in your wife's family work? Forget anyone who is not currently working unless they are retired with substantial assets and pensions or multi-millionaires.

Surely there is someone in the family with a job?
