Interesting how most people, so far, have said they got engaged the first time they met.

I arrived in her city on Feb. 12th. I had to speak with her mother and the family on Feb. 13th to get their blessing of marriage first. I waited until 12:30am on Feb. 14th to propose. I, at least, gave it a couple of days!

The way I look at it......and probably most other sensible people...............

If you are married 50 years from now, and are both sitting there in your rocking chairs, together......reminiscing.........then, who's going to give a damn?

You only live once in this life (unless you're Shirley MacLaine :P .....................and if you find someone whom can make your life complete and memorable for the next half a century................then who is ANYONE to say that it shouldn't be done?

On the other hand..................good thing you waited 2 days.........could've made all the difference, right? ;)

I couldn't vote either, since we didn't meet online. We met when I was on holiday in Paris with a girlfriend, and became engaged a year and a few months later.

We met in a yahoo chat room... just out of the blue. His first time ever in a chat room, and in a chat room that I was never usually in. We clicked immediately and have been talking for a couple of hours every day ever since.

We waited 6 months before he came over here. By that time, we had logged a LOT of time talking about everything you could think of. We know each other better than anyone else on this earth. So it didn't seem odd that we were talking about getting married and getting engaged when he came over for that visit. We just both knew that it really depended on if we felt the same way about each other once we met face to face. We were realistic to know that sometimes that physical chemistry isn't there. Lucky for us, we hit it off and our feelings had not changed at all, they just intensified being in each others presense. So we got engaged knowing that the K1 process would take another 6 months before being approved and he would be allowed to move over here. He did ask my dad (then he had to ask my mom) for my hand in marriage. My parents were aware of our feelings for each other and I had told them that we may be getting engaged if all went as we expected while he was here.

I don't think that it is strange that couples who meet this way end up getting engaged so quickly. The distance forces them to communicate verbally and thus get to know each other very well.... better than if you were to date someone in the same city because you don't have the physical side getting in the way. This way, you talk and REALLY get to know the person then when you do meet... the physical is just a bonus!

Anyhow, I always get that "OHHHH...the internet eh?" Like everyone you meet over the internet is suppose to be a serial killer or something

I get that a lot, too. And, because he's from Nigeria, I get the "oh, he's just using you to get to the U.S." or "Has he asked you for money yet?" Yeah, every person on the internet MUST have something wrong with them. Oh, wait . . . . that would include ME since I was obviously on the internet, too (are you getting the sarcasm???).

We met through an MSN chatroom and exchanged MSN messenger addresses when the room closed down. Chatted on there on microphone for a couple of years and got closer and closer, and I realised how much I looked forward to 'seeing' him at weekends... last year it got a lot more serious and he came over for Christmas and New Year. As others have said, in all that communication I got to know him other probably more than I know anyone in the 'real' world and I know I trust him implicitly! The crunch was if we fancied each other or not and Christmas proved that we did...
