Depends on your personal situation.  If you are bad with organization/paperwork, feel more comfortable with a lawyer, and can afford it - I would say do it.

 

However, there are various resources including the visajourney wiki which details out what to bring. NVC website also provides detailed country-specific instructions and checklists:

Go with what you feel comfortable with.

 

Personally, I chose not to bother with a lawyer since I feel I would be more attentive to my own visa case than a lawyer overloaded with various cases.  I did some research across the board and made my own checklist (see the NVC process link in my signature).  You can compile the information, prep it beforehand, go over it a million times, get feedback from Canadian visa peers, and moreover, Canada is a low risk country so you shouldn't be too concerned unless your case has extenuating circumstances which raise red flags.

Hi everyone! New to this. We just sent off our documents to nvc March 28th. From the Looks of it we have quite a wait 😞even though our attorney and nvc's confirmation of the ds260 said "usually" 30 days.. is it correct that we have need to call to confirm a scan date?

in most cases no. What was your checklist for?  Many of us get through without checklists if we just make sure to check and double check before sending anything in.

Also once you get to embassy stage, I'm not sure if its the same for all, but my embassy said when the interview is scheduled they'll send me a list of what to bring.

Ok, I wonder how soon I should call? Our attorney said they would check on the case after 30 days but I'd like to know the scan date also. Our fee bills have been paid for a long time now so maybe that will cut some time off...

You can call as long as you have your usics number.  NVC  number 603-334-0700 option 2 , tell them you are checking to see if a nvc and invoice number has been issued as yet. Try to call before 9am the wait are usually shorter. Make sure you have your USICS number

Think it would be option 4 since they submitted their nvc docs and have already paid the fees.

unfortunately yes

for my experience, the emails I received from NVC were welcome letter, payment confirmation, then nothing

there is no clear status check between package send to NVC till case completed

so u need to call NVC

do u use Fedex or similar? u can track if ur package arrived, then give 2-5 days to NVC to scan ur document into their system

Yes I just went back through my emails and seen the lawyer did mention that they sent it with a tracking number so I guess I will wait for them to confirm it was delivered!

Find something interesting to do in the time we are waiting for approval. Do you work? If not, find a hobby and pursue it for as long as you're in India (possibly even after you go to US). Just waiting will surely drive you crazy.
