Donald Trump’s leaked tax return reveals that the businessman had to pay tens of millions of dollars in a single year because of a tax rule that he has specifically promised to abolish as president.

A two-page section of Trump’s tax return for 2005, which was published by MSNBC late on Tuesday, revealed that the president paid $38m in federal taxes on more than $150m in income in 2005.

MSNBC report sparks angry response from the White House as return shows that Trump made more than $150m and paid $38m in taxes

But the documents also showed that about 82% of the total paid to the Internal Revenue Service that year by Trump and his wife, Melania, was incurred due to a tax that Trump has said should be abolished.

The “alternative minimum tax” (AMT), which was introduced to ensure the mega wealthy pay a fairer share of tax, comprised $31m of Trump’s tax bill compared to $5.3m in regular federal income tax. In the run-up to November’s election, Trump pledged to eliminate the AMT altogether, meaning the president campaigned for a change in the tax law that would have benefited him.

But all this time the MDL  has been telling us Trump paid no taxes. ROFL.  I swear you can't make this stuff up.

Yes, because we all keep our eye's and ear's glued to the news (written or audio).  I for one was tied up all day for work, then did my school work so I was not really up on what the media types were peddling yesterday and I know I can't get it here from the MDL.  Today I have a little more time, but still don't see what all the fuss is about.  An article from Newsweek?  Are they even in business anymore?

What's your safe word?

But to us, the biggest news is: Who leaked these taxes to David Cay Johnston. And why? As NBC's Ari Melber pointed out on "Today" this morning, only these people would have access to the tax return -- Trump, his family, his accountant, or the IRS. Melber also noted that it is NOT illegal for an individual to release his or her own taxes to the public. This morning, Trump tweeted, "Does anybody really believe that a reporter, who nobody ever heard of, 'went to his mailbox' and found my tax returns? @NBCNews FAKE NEWS!" But our question: How is it fake when the White House confirmed the numbers?

Put up or shut up time on any Trump-Russia investigation?

"Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse said Tuesday that FBI Director James Comey promised to tell him Wednesday whether the FBI is investigating ties between Russia and the campaign of President Donald Trump," CNN reported yesterday. "The Rhode Island Democrat said that Comey made the promise in a March 2 meeting with him and Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina." Per NBC's Kasie Hunt, we already knew about this deadline. But it's unclear if we'll get any announcement from Comey today. As Graham noted on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" this morning, per MSNBC's Shirley Zilberstein:

You are factually incorrect, Donald Trump said that he didn't pay taxes, and that that made him smart.
