And yet those two Syrian families who were Orthodox christians and had IMMIGRANT visas were sent back.

Only if you were there at CBP to help them interpret this law..

The argument here is not the interpretation of the law the language is clear, but rather establishing the legal precedent for the EO to begin with. I simply supplied links to the law itself and another link upholding the legality of its application since the original objection claimed this was and opinion.

As previously stated, the confusion as to who is included in the EO and any misinterpretation by CBP due to it being poorly communicated has since been corrected and clarified.

Is that a guarantee?

I hope for everyone's sake it is.

Yes they have, and so have other governments. But, something that concerns me greater is that they would personally ask someone what they thought of Donald Trump, and based on their answer, could potentially deny them the right to enter. It's not simply a matter of scanning your phone stuff and seeing if you are a mastermind criminal or a lunatic or whatever... but actually chilling someone's free speech rights. We all live in this country, but we all aren't forced to share a favorable opinion of the president in order to reside here.

I'm not saying this is what's going on, I' don't normally go with the "conspiracy thing" either I'm too naive or I live in reality. Which it is, the future will tell. It is thought provoking though, and in theory could happen.

"When I read about the incredibly active first week of the Trump administration, I struggle with two competing narratives about what’s really going on. The first story is simple: the administration is just doing what it said it would do, literally keeping its campaign promises. Lots of people won’t agree, but it’s playing to its base. They’re also not really good at this whole government thing yet, so implementation is shaky. The second is more sinister: the administration is deliberately testing the limits of governmental checks and balances to set up a self-serving, dangerous consolidation of power.

A legitimate argument can be made for the former: a relatively extreme and inexperienced administration was just put in place, and they haven’t yet figured out the nuances of government. But a few of the events in the past 72 hours —the intentional inclusion of green card holders in the immigration order, the DHS defiance of a federal judge, and the timing of Trump’s shakeup of the National Security Council — have pointed to a larger story. Even worse, if that larger story is true, if the source of this week’s actions is a play to consolidate power, it’s going really well so far. And that’s because mostly everyone — including those in protests shutting down airports over the weekend— are playing right into the administration’s hand..."

I tend to see the world in more pink nuances than that :P good or bad..

I don't think it's too far off, in the sinister realm, considering the person who helped to write the document. That's the trap one falls into, when you rule by executive orders. Some Presidents may genuinely feel frustrated and use them for good... and others... well, have their own unique motivations.

The problem I have with these stories is that it can be perfectly normal to be brought into secondary, detained, and questioned or not.  I've witnessed it happening to Scandinavians on our recent trip and even we, American citizens included, sat in secondary before they had time to process my husband.  They are acting like this is something new.

Sure, it's even happened to me before. But, I think the reason why people are so horrified about it, is because it's all out in the open now. It's something new, because.. the average American doesn't understand that it happens.. that it could happen. And now people can see what happens when the CBP is either so inept.. or so confused they abuse this new directive of power. The fact that it happened en masse, not simply because someone was suspicious or there was some question to their documents, or even to fill an imaginary CBP quota... but for no reason whatsoever. They did nothing wrong, but the ruling basically made their existence at that place and time, somehow wrong.

Oh definitely, I wouldn't fly right now if I was from a MENA country.  Nobody needs that kind of stress.

It's also leading to uncertainty and fears of people from non-MENA countries. It's caused un-needed stress, and for what? We're no more safer than we were before.

I've been thinking the same thing. A good portion of the rumors that seem to circulate the Internet (also from before this EO) seem to just be people who were in secondary.

I've been through secondary myself.

The implementation of this travel ban seems to have garnered the same amount of deep thought as a 3am Trump tweet.
The protesters and journalists circulating rumors seem to have the same background knowledge of our immigration system as a Miss Universe contestant.

I'd like to draw attention to this article from the Intercept I mused over last night. If I judge what I'm reading correctly: if you came on a K1 from one of those 7 countries, and have filed to adjust your status, if you have been here for a long time and are trying to ROC, or if you are making the decision to file for citizenship - they are being directed to virtually shelve your cases indefinitely. https://theintercept.com/2017/01/30/asylum-officials-and-state-department-in-turmoil-there-are-people-literally-crying-in-the-office-here/

Quote

The immigration official said that staffers at one Department of Homeland Security office were devastated when they arrived at work Monday morning to find an email, circulated among DHS leadership over the weekend, informing department personnel that they would no longer be permitted to adjudicate any immigration claims from the seven countries targeted by Trump’s travel ban, including petitions for asylum, permanent residency, or naturalization.

“Effectively [sic] immediately and until additional guidance is received, you may not take final action on any petition or application where the applicant is a citizen or national of Syria, Iraq, Iran, Somalia, Yemen, Sudan, and Libya,” wrote Daniel M. Renaud, associate director of field operations for DHS’s office of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. “Field offices may interview applicants for adjustment of status and other benefits according to current processing guidance and may process petitions and applications for individuals from these countries up to the point where a decision would be made.”

“At that point, cases shall be placed on hold until further notice and will be shelved with specific NFTS codes which will be provided through the Regional Offices,” Renaud went on. “Offices are not permitted [to] make any final decision on affected cases to include approval, denial, withdrawal, or revocation.”

“Please look for additional guidance later this weekend on how to process naturalization applicants from one of the seven countries listed above who are currently scheduled for oath ceremony or whose N-400s have been approved and they are pending scheduling of oath ceremony,” Renaud wrote. “We expect to issue more detailed guidance and procedures as needed in the coming days.”

[..]

In practice, the senior immigration official told The Intercept, the directive means that if individuals fleeing wars or persecution in the countries targeted by Trump file for asylum, “We can’t issue a final decision.” Immigration authorities also can’t grant what is called “adjustment of status” to people already in the U.S. With respect to the oath ceremonies referenced in the directive, the official said the language indicates those could be placed on hold. When they would be resolved is unclear.

It was a move many within the government had feared, the official said — a so-called security hold that would essentially paralyze the asylum and immigration process for those fleeing some of the world’s most volatile places. “Permission to work, adjust status to a citizen or a permanent resident, any immigration form they have will stay in limbo,” the official explained. “We know what is coming. These cases will all likely be denied after significant waits.”

This is actually one aspect of the order, the media is not discussing.. nor have we been really talking about this as well.

So, if the information quoted in the article is correct, it effectively puts applicants in an extended period of AP while additional background checks are completed. How does this differ from what has previously been the standard procedure?
