I am glad to see this. I despise Black Friday. I think there should be a few Holidays a year that are real Holidays and people spend time with their family

Yeah, I hate black Friday as well. Haven't left the house in over 8 years for it. I order a LOT of stuff online throughout the year unless it is a MUST HAVE/RIGHT NOW sort of thing, which most things aren't (except maybe a fresh bottle of vodka when I am about to check in on VJ).

I try to look for stores that give their people off on Thanksgiving and Christmas, and give them my patronage. Small, I know, but it's something. Tractor Supply comes to mind. I try to buy from them more than before for this very reason.

This year will be easy to skip the crowds personally, as I will be working Tuesday thru Sunday. Woot!

I'm not sure black Friday's dying. They've just figured out how to spread the day out over the whole month of November. I hate black Friday as much as anyone, but I'd rather have one day of craziness that I could just stay home rather than having a whole month of commercial silliness.

I tend to avoid retail space Thanksgiving thru Christmas.

Glad I could find a subject most could agree on

Ya this makes me happy how much agreement there is :)

I also hate the holiday. Not just because at its peak it was actually dangerous (Dying in a mob at Walmart? Sad way to go). I agree that these holidays should be about family. I really hate hearing advertisements on TV/Radio where they take the word "Thanksgiving" and turn it into some sale tagline. I heard one a few days ago on the radio where they literally just replaced "Thanks" with something else, but I can't for the life of me remember. It was horrible and made me really offended.

There is a petition in the UK going around to try to get more shops to close for Boxing Day (Day after Christmas), which is sort of like our Black Friday though with more historical precedent I think (Not sure where Black Friday really comes from, but Boxing Day was the day off for servants who worked on Christmas).

For me Black Friday will just be another workday, which I really don't mind. Might buy a TV at some point on sale, but I"ll do that either from home or on a random day after work.

As much as I dislike Black Friday I will say that I do enjoy some retail spaces during this time of year. I quite like Christmas decorations so don't mind it. In NYC the Christmas Markets were good fun. Don't expect much of that here in Houston though :( Luckily I'm heading to Germany before Christmas so I'll get to hit the markets there.

Internet shopping is a dream. It's probably one of the main things I'm looking forward to about living in the States again.

NYC's Christmas markets are nice indeed, but they're seasonal (not just up for one day) and usually selling more handmade things. We need more of that kind of thing in the US (cute small markets), and less stupid mindless consumerism.

Of course now I read an article about France thwarting a terror plot focused on the Strasbourg Christmas Markets and I am a little less excited about going to big markets in Germany :( I'll still go, just maybe not to the giant ones.

The internet and Amazon were invented so men could enjoy shopping!

Speaking of Amazon have you said those new "Dash" things where you buy something where all you do is a press a button and it reorders one specific item? Kind of ridiculous.

I haven't used the "dash" yet, but I do have a monthly subscription through Amazon for Tim Horton's k-cups. I order it for my wife because we don't have a Tim Horton's near us and it ives her a little taste of home. I really like the coffee as well. I have used the one button ordering on Amazon, which is really convenient. I also like the Amazon Prime.

ETA: I'm not sure if the bolded part above is the "dash" you were referring to.

Amen Brother. I have told my wife many times , why go spend all afternoon looking for something you can find in 3 minutes on the Puter

Most women like the sport of shopping. My wife insists that running around crazy, fighting bumper to bumper traffic and wrestling with people is all part of the shopping experience.

welcome to the internet of things
