Black Friday is dying a slow death

I actually like the early sales. They usually have better deals then Black Friday deals and no craziness. But most of my good deals comes about march when all the black friday stuff that didn't sell goes on sale. We picked up the Else princess castle for $40 from 120 Black Friday had it for $99. Thing is you never know what will go on sale but it works for me.

I guess if you like shopping and don't mind crowds it is a good thing. I'd rather pay full price than fight the crowds for a deal, and many times that's what I end up doing.

So people who go bankrupt are mostly responsible for the crowds on Black Friday?

seerebuilding Black Friday was originally in Trumps platform. unfortunately 'make America Black again' may have been misunderstood

Haven't been shopping on black Friday since... ever. Online is always the way to go, and then I usually pick one weekend mid-Dec to get everything else in the store in one go. You can find good deals online even before 'cyber Monday'. However, I think there's always something that gets overlooked in all the shopping craze (both in Walmarts and online), big box stores really hurt small local shops... and you can find some really nice stuff by taking a few hours to browse. We always love shopping in antique and thrift stores. No way would I go out shopping this week though, there's always someone that gets shot or stabbed at the local Walmart on Friday.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Sharp. I love Sony Bravia, but if you want a big size one I can see how you'd want something much cheaper. How much are Bravia's for in your area?

I'm shockingly surprised how good my hi sense roku tv is

That's why I don't mind paying for shipping if necessary, to me it's worth the extra money to avoid the madness. Usually I can find equal or better deals on-line compared to what's in the stores, even if I have to pay shipping, it still ends up being cheaper sometimes and with much fewer headaches.

Yes, that is a drawback. But still, unlike most women, I hate shopping, lol. Internet shopping just makes it soooo much easier and you can generally get a better deal. Thankfully my mom works from home so she's always there to pick stuff up for me and I just have it shipped to her house. She even bought a jumbo sized mailbox so the mailman could fit packages into it, hehe.

I am able to receive shipments here at work so I don't have to worry about something being stolen off my porch. That would be a concern if I had to have everything sent to my house. We get daily UPS, FedEx, & USPS pick ups and drop offs at my work and now the new Amazon trucks have started delivering here too.

Yep, I remember when I lived in NYC, there was a crazy package thief who lived in my building and one of my packages was stolen from my doorstep. After that, I started having everything shipped to my job and it wasn't a problem as the mailman/package guys would always come during office hours. It's a good solution if you don't have any trusted people to take your packages for you.

I think the economy and unemployment rate has something to do with it. Some people just don't have the money to go shopping. But that doesn't stop others in the same situation. They go and buy just as much ####### as they did before, even though they have no income nor savings. Thank God for credit. They don't intend to actually pay for the ####### they buy, they know uncle Sam (via tax payers) will eventually pick up the tab for them. They will file bankruptcy, the banks will write off the losses, and our economy ends up paying for it in the end.

Here comes a rant, sorry in advance....

If the IRS would stop letting banks write off the "losses" (read: giving credit to unemployed people, not verifying stated incomes, etc), we could get rid of Black Friday once and for all.

BTW- Our living room TV has been turning off on its own for a while now and has a small pixel line across the bottom quarter of the screen, so I'm gonna break down and buy a new one. Lasted 8.5 years. Going to BJ's Wholesale on Friday morning to get a 50" Sharp LED for $250. It's $499 now, so half price. It's something we need, and it's not online, in-store only. But I'm not going to Walmart. Then again, they start the sale on Thur 6pm, so the idiots will clean the place out by Friday. I'm not one to go on Thanksgiving, so I'm SOL on a few things that we need and saw Walmart will be selling cheap.

BJ's has some really good deals on Samsung tv's as well, I've bought a 48" & 55" there at really good prices. I find the Samsung quality to be equal to Sony, but much cheaper.

OMG. It's almost black Friday isn't it?

random question...my fiance works for a small business who does in house payroll via direct deposit. I'm wondering if it'll go thru tomorrow instead of Friday. if so...early sales online here I come

As long as your employer is okay with it, it's a much safer option.

I'm bar tending at the moment so it's iffy

I can't speak for all companies, but usually when a holiday falls on pay day, that usually delays the check by a day.
