K1 visa needs to be put on bank account

It will ultimately depend on the bank and how much knowledge the individual working there has (ask for a higher up). Your wife can be added to the bank account with just her passport as a form of ID and in general your marriage certificate. Some banks have no issues doing so for couples and others do. I would say if a bank does not wish to serve you, there are plenty of other banks that are immigrant friendly. If they don't want your business, then it's their loss.

I was able to add my husband to bank after marriage before he came to the US (that was different i know as i applied for ITIN)

but after marriage, go for the SS number / banks require this from the new HOmeland Security laws after 9/11

Find a more willing bank. There are many out there that will accommodate you just fine. Perhaps asking to close your account would be the onus for a policy/procedural change.

We used Wells Fargo and my wife was able to get on the account with her passport and MC. Once we got her permanent SSN then we returned to the bank and they updated their records. She has had no problems in the 3 years she has been here.

I was able to open my own account with Bank of America years before I moved to the US. I had to provide two sets of foreign ID and make a deposit. Try another bank or branch.

My husband was added to my bank account the same week he got his SS card, a month prior to marriage. They just used his passport and his SSN.

W8-BEN with her passport copy should work for most banks until she gets a SSN. If the bank employee won't help you go further up the chain.

You do not NEED to add her to your account for AOS. If you are referring to showing co-mingled finance as proof of a bonafied marriage, you will need to provide this for ROC a few years later, not AOS.

That being said, I was able to add my fiance to my account with just his foreign driver's license. No SSN or US ID needed.

Get married, then add her to the account. Use her SS card and her passport as ID.
