anybody else realize most shootings occur in either gun free zones or areas with heavy gun control?

Most of the "fixes" proposed right now would not have prevented hardly any of the shootings of recent years.

It's not the guns that are the problem. That doesn't mean I don't think there should be a sensible solution, nor do I want the crazy dude I see walking downtown every once in a while talking to himself to carry a gun. Mental illness is not a joke...but considering most VTers carry guns...if you ask me do I feel safer around them, walking in our marketplace surrounded by people with guns or sitting in a restaurant with people with guns, than I would feel in a gun free zone....hell yeah I do.

For me personally denying somebody a constitutional right who has not even been charged with a crime is a non-starter. It's a complete non-negotiable position and I would not move from it. It's very sad that the success of 911 in making the US act like a moron has come to the point where half of Washington is ready to deny somebody a constitutional right just because they are on a list, with unknown criteria and a list from which it is very difficult if not impossible to be removed. Once we deny them the second, we could deny them the first, or any other amendments as well.

Good luck!

You need to add the picture of them eating Chick-fil-a. On another note, disregarding the 2nd amendment, who supports the denial of our 5th amendment rights?

What people fail to realize is, in terms of gun deaths, it's a two tier problem that needs to be handled differently depending on the area you're focusing on.

For the majority affected by mass shootings, you need tighter background checks. Mental health should be a concern, but since some of those gun owners might not make the cut, it's going to be the biggest obstacle. No way you're going to get rid of all the guns in circulation, because they're afraid if you take the guns, someone is going to get them. Which is funny since having the police, government, and opportunities pretty much prevents what they're afraid of.

For the minority, gun control isn't causing the violence. Lack of jobs, education, drugs, poverty, an apathetic police force, and crime is the main cause. Gun control is just another slap in the face letting us know how this country really feels about it's POC population. Adding guns to those places, all you'd ensure is more shootouts. Until you fix the root of the problem, guns will do nothing but contribute to the death toll.

I agree with most of the main points here.

I'm sure there could be a way to get stronger background checks. This would help with most of the mass shootings; since most of us agree that these people should have never had access to guns in the first place. However, for the daily shootings that occur in major cities, the issue has to be more with the societal problems and not the gun problem. A better society will definitely have less violence.

The problem seems to be that politicians don't really seemed to be concerned with fixing the problem; they are more concerned with the publicity they can get for arguing about the problem.

The exception to your non-starter rule being if the person who is having a Constitutional Right curtailed is Muslim or Hispanic, or from a "garbage country," then you are good with it?
