I've flown UIA many times and it's a decent service. 2 meals KBP-JFK. Economy seat pitch is a bit tight, but the price is very low.

Hey people,

We are getting close to (I hope) the end and we are starting to research flying to the US.

Since I live in Greece, I have to fly first to another European country and from then on to the US and get yet another flight to reach GR. MI.

My options are many but based on our budget, Delta is the cheapest option from Rome to Detroit.

I am reading very mixed reviews on Delta. Some say it is good, some say it is awful. We are a family of 5 (3 small children). One concern of mine is seating. I keep reading that families often get separated, which in our case can't happen. I have a 2 year old and two 10 year olds who have never flown before. I don't really expect to be separated from the 2 year old but the 10 year olds are a different matter.

If

anyone has experience with flying Delta Airlines from Europe to the USA, please share!!

Thank you!!

Delta has the best transatlantic service of any American carrier, in my opinion. They seem to be accommodating with families, but a good advice is to buy tickets as early as possible and select your seats. If you can pay for a higher fare class, your chances of accommodation increase.

My experiences with Delta have been bad so I won't comment. I used to work for their rival so that may have something to do with it.

Fly on a Tuesday or a Wednesday to get the best choice of seating. These flights are typically less busy. On my most recent trip at the beginning of this month I flew on a Wednesday and economy had 83 unsold seats when we took off. I once flew on a Tuesday in December and there were only 43 passengers on the plane (transatlantic back to London). I had 3 rows to myself.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

I've ALWAYS reserved my seat when booking online and I have NEVER had to give up my seat to anyone even on full flights and I've flown with a dozen different airlines. Delta should be no different.

Thanks guys and gals!!
We are flying on a Tuesday (God willing, everything goes well I mean) and we are booking seats online, yes :)
Only thing is they do not fly from Greece to the USA (they DO but only into NY and we would have to switch airports which is not an option). So we are flying from Athens to Rome and from Rome to Detroit (POE) then on to GR.
Wish us luck!!!! :) :)

BTW, how about the seats? I am 5' 7" and on the larger side but I will sit with my toddler so we shouldn't squish anyone ;)

I had an awful experience with them...

I was flying back to Brazil and I left JFK, to Detroit and Detroit to São Paulo - Brazil.

They forgot one of my suitcases in Detroit... And to complete the situation, they delivered the forgotten suitcase on the next day at the wrong house!!!

The person accepted the suitcase and I lost everything... (gifts for kids were all o that one...).

NEVER AGAIN!!!

The cheap can be expensive sometimes... Ugh...

I´LL START TO LIVE BACK AGAIN WHEN I´LL BE ON MY HUBBY´S ARMS, FOREVER AND EVER. UNTIL THERE, I DON´T LIVE. I SURVIVE. (L)

If for some reason you find yourself separated as far as seat assignments, speak to the gate agent before boarding. If your problem is not resolved to your satisfaction, just request to speak to a red coat. Red coats are customer service supervisors who will bend over backwards for a legitimate problem.

Unfortunately when it comes to international flights I cannot advocate for any US based airline. Bad customer service, old planes, checked luggage fees, poor entertainment systems, bad food. The only advantage US based airlines give is the price and that's it. In 2013, I traveled to Istanbul with Delta from JFK. An old 767-300. It didn't have any entertainment system, food was horrible (greasy, tasteless), liquor selection was poor, but it was literally $500 cheaper than my Turkish Airlines. If price is too good to pass on then go with whatever you like but if it is a little difference, go with anything but a US based airline.

For domestic flights though, I love flying with JetBlue.

Ok People!
Tickets bought!! I am indeed flying Delta from Rome to Detroit then on to GR.

I had a HECK of a time getting my cat onboard. It wasn't until I was rather rude to them, after 3 weeks of daily calls to them about it that I got some results.
I kinda threatened to request a full refund on the terms that I can't travel without the family pet.
They approved the animal within an hour after that.

So POE will be Detroit, I have read all the POE reviews for that.

Can someone direct me specifically please? Once off the plane (we arrive in the afternoon), where do I go? Do I stand with my USC husband and child in the US citizens line or what? The baby will NOT want to be away from me so we need to stay all together.

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
