Your uscis case status will change from "case was approved" to "case was sent to the department of state". After that you have to keep calling NVC to find out if your case has arrived.

This is our case

I130 approved: May 6th

Case was sent to NVC: May 11th

Case was received at NVC on May 13th

Then we got a case number and IIN on May 27th

I feel the same way as you. We have the same scan date. The longer they take to give us a case closed the further pit interview date is. I was hoping for a July interview but that may not happen

??? They take so long. I wasn't hoping for July interview that's too early. But thinking about September or October ??? hopefully no bad news!!!

Start calling them about a week after your petition has been sent to NVC. Once they have recieved your case they will tell you on the phone that it will take up to 42 days for your case # to get assigned. But just keep calling about once a week; there's a good chance to get it earlier.

My IV bill is taking so long to be invoiced compared to some people... I got the case number, received/paid AOS on 5/23. Since I can't be in any hurry right now--we are struggling to get police certificates and birth certificate anyway--I didn't call to get the 261 reviewed for a while. They did it over the phone with me very politely on 5/31 and told me not to worry because my case is actually moving very fast. (Looks about average to me, but ok.)

Like I said it doesn't matter too much because I have to wait who knows how long to send in the AOS/IV packages, but I'm anxious to do SOMETHING!

Yes, the beneficiary's birth certificate is a requirement. You'll send them a copy.

Did you send just IV documents or both the IV and AOS (Financial = AOS). If both, how did you send them? If you have tracking on the package, you can check with the shipper. Otherwise, call in a few days to see.

Scan date is when they log them in. That is different than when they physically receive them, and is usually one or more days later. 1st/2nd scan date, etc. is when you send them the packets, then they send you a checklist of missing items, then you send MORE documents. That second document reception and scanning is the second scan date. This doesn't happen for everyone, sometimes you only get the one scan date (and that's usually what you're hoping for!).

When in doubt - call NVC and check the status. I bugged the heck out of the NVC and even called out the state department on Twitter when their system was broken. It never hurts (and often helps) to call in and ask where your application is in the process of things.
