TBH, the more I learn (sometimes on VJ) about civilian assault style weapons, the more I realize the pointlessness of outlawing them mostly due to the lack of real difference between an AR and a typical hunting gun. One just looks meaner apparently. When normal people argue with a scientist who's dedicated their entire life to studying the climate, it looks ridiculous. Why would assumption against knowledge in any other area look better? That doesn't mean you can't have an opinion but if you're going to call for control of certain types of weapons, it would help your cause if you knew a real concrete reason of what type and why.

Good points. And at the end of the day, regardless of what a gun looks like, or how many bullets a magazine holds, the danger lies in the heart of the holder of the weapon.

you have been helpful to me, although honestly the info you give doesn't sink in. i'm a hands-on person, the only way i really retain such things - and i doubt i get into guns and target practice or mechanical history etc etc anytime soon.

i definitely feel you on realizing pointlessness. i'm a pretty realistic person and i honestly feel that america's culture, common denominator culture - across race and class, is gun culture. and that's about all the culture we've got at this point in the game.

It has been helpful for me and it is appreciated. I have learned quite a bit about the different types of guns and their capabilities from you. And being able to talk to a responsible gun owner like yourself (and Spooky) in a mature way has given me a bit more respect for those of you that do take this seriously and are willing to explain what it's all about.

Without infringing on those rights or changing the constitution, not much in this case. The guns were purchased legally in one of the strictest gun law states there is.

My personal opinion here. When it comes to protect my loved ones, no matter who the person holding the gun against us is (christian, muslim, black, white, man, woman, old, minor, illegal or legal immigrant) I will aim and shoot. Its better to stand and fight for those you love than to see them die because you didnt have a conceal and carry permit.
