NVC Policy Change RE: Civil Documents -- Copies Now Accepted

Summary: The National Visa Center (NVC) will cease collecting original civil documents in support of immigrant visa (IV) applications as of November 12, 2014. Most applicants will be required to submit photocopies of supporting documents (such as birth, marriage, and police certificates) and will be instructed to take their original documents to their interviews for review. This does not include Affidavit of Support forms, which petitioners will still submit to NVC for initial evaluation.

If I am reading this correctly, they are wanting to speed up the date which they can post cases to be documentarily complete, which looks to me to mean they want to push cases to cc more quickly. Works for me

Gosh i was heading to get certified copies of all civil docx .. That saves a lot of work

Hmmm....how about translations of this documents? Still need to be certified?

I suppose yes...get certified translation and send photocopy of it...right?

I don't understand. We have sent certified copies of civil docs & AOS 3 times and 3 times they lost it. The NVC signed for the papers with the courier and date stamped but held no responsibility for ever receiving it. So we sent them for the 4th time a week ago thursday. Tuesday our lawyer got an email from NVC stating they got the documents but we would have to re-send with all the originals because they wouldn't except the certified copies. Now they are taking just photocopies....seriously. We are really really starting to think that the NVC is screwing with us. We have been sending in this paperwork repeatedly since the middle of June. We are at 20 months of this ridiculous process.

This is great news. It is consistent with EP since we would only send electronic copies that way and present originals at the interview. I was fortunate enough to be enrolled in EP but for those who are not this must be welcome news to not have to let their original documents go out with the risk of them being lost!

NVC should have been found ways to lessen the wait time. They have done family members of US citizens such distress. People want to be with their family how much proof do they need the wait time is proof enough.

Thank you for posting this. In particular, it is time-consuming and difficult to certify/translate and then send documents from the beneficiary to the sponsor, and then on the the NVC. It has added weeks to the process.

Once my wife arrived at the embassy, the staff returned a lot of extra copies that had been requested by the NVC as they did not require them.
